Travel Insurance - Excess via Credit Card

Options
Well after 4 months and threatening to take my insurance company to court, they have final settled a claim for Accomodation that was cancelled as Flights to NYC were cancelled because of the snow.

The Accomodation cost £360, I tried to claim £300 (£60 excess).
Insurers paid £240 (£60 excess PER Person)

Since I paid for the Accomodation via Credit Card, can I claim my lost £120 that I have had to pay out as an excess?

It does say in the insurance documentation that all excess are per person, but it was a single claim for Accomodation, seems a rip off to me.

The Insurance Company was Columbus Directand underwritten by Global claims. Will never user them again.

I feel like telling them, the hotel was only for me and the wife was going to be sleeping in the street :)

Your credit card protection is for contract breaches by the merchant. Your excess is an uninsured loss, and nothing to do with the credit card company.

A regular Condition made by many travel insurance companies. Rather than bad mouth the IC for something you (legally) agreed to. Try next time paying for excess waiver when you buy the policy. It may be cheaper if you have to claim, but a waste of money if you don't claim!!!

More support for Columbus from you!

Do you have some other agenda for continually defending them here, when elsewhere the comments are far from supporting of Columbus?

    Quentin - Ignore

Others - Not because He disagrees but because he will argue to the death and he is rude. He twists words..........

Not telling you guys to ignore him - you make your own mind up - I'm informing him that I AM IGNORING HIM - or trying to!

But it is hard when he gives you incorrect advise.

All IC's, not just Columbus will have a time scale as the when they consider it a delay. If they did not you'd have people trying to claim that the aircraft was (for example) 30 seconds late leaving! (And where did I EVER recommend them - They are average is all I have ever said - hardly a recommendation!)

Fortis is the ONLY company I would recommend (according to my experiences ONLY! - before a certain someone jumps down my throat again))

This seems a little more than just an "average" mark from you:

It took them over 4 months to pay, only when threatened with legal action, did they pay out within 48 hours. Initially they even tried to say it was travel delay as I could have flown out 4 days later(The day I was due to fly home).

Numerous phone calls were met with crap about the reason for the delay in settlement. One minute it was waiting for info from the airline, then info from the Hotel.

A complete bunch of muppets in my opinion, and would never use them again.

4 Months? Not bad compared to Axa - we have claims dating back to 2004!!!
All the accounts I deal with are at least 140 days (legally delinquent) That's over 4 months BEFORE I start working on them.
I dont think 4 months is that bad compared to the 30,000+ accounts on my desk!
I think you should count yourself lucky it was ONLY 4 months compared to other insurers.
Think about the lady on my books who is £19,000.00 out of pocket and is still fighting Axa after 3 years!
JD of Devon, Global Response denied case then after fighting (also from her solicitors) with the IC they paid - trouble is they paid only one medical provider and not the other 3 bills so JD is back to square one and we will have to take action if SHE does not pay!!!
