That's for special, the OP said she used recorded delivery which is why I am confused.

Re reading the posts I wonder if an RM employee has told her the item should have been delivered (as in its been 5 days so it should be there) where in fact the tracking shows otherwise.

Its not always the case though - I once sent a letter recorded delivery and it never showed up as delivered - and still never even when I received a reply to the letter!

That's true, the one address notororious for this is the carphone warehouse and e2save claim departments where nothing is ever signed for.

However, for paypal purposes if the item is not shown as delivered then it isn't, and all that can be done is the sender can claim for non delivery from the Royal Mail.

The person I spoke to on the phone said it had been delivered, although the website still doesn't show that it has been. She told me that she couldnt read the signature so would email it to me.
Im really confused now and getting annoyed with RM. Thanks for the help from all the replies though!

Was it recorded or special though?

Actually it doesn't really matter as if the website shows it as undelivered then that is what paypal will accept. I find it strange that the Royal Mail are saying it is delivered yet their tracking number shows otherwise as in my experience they only use the same tracking info to update both.

If it is showing as undelivered on the Royal mail website and was sent recorded then after 15 working days you can claim for loss. If it was sent special then you can still claim for loss, but you can also claim for delay as special is guaranteed next working day delivery.
