Bread Maker - worth it?

I'm being slowly convinced about a breadmaker, so here's my daft question.....when you're slicing an ordinary loaf, what's the best way?
With my slicing skills I'd be looking at 6 slices per loaf which is definitely NOT MSE!
Now I have it down to a fine art and can slice it like shop bought. The loaves aren't as long as shop bought so I get 10-12 slices, and I slice it when cooled properly as much easier.0 -
Hi I have resurrected the breadmaker from the roof space and decided to make my own bread. I have made 3 loaves and on the "dark" setting but it still comes out looking very light in colour. Am I doing something wrong or is it just the Maker, Oh it is a Hinari(bought as a present) Should I invest in a better one?0

Well, ive managed to get a breadmaker (i had asked Nana to buy me one for my birthday but instead she has given me her Morphy Richards Fastbake
I dont have any instructions for it but i think ive worked it out - is there anything that i really should know about the best way to make bread?
Ive got it running at the mo with a packet mix just to see if its ok but really want to start using it the MSE way and not sure where to start.
Thanks

I am not sure if this is the right thread.
I am trying to work out, is it cheaper to buy bread or make your own?
I cannot calculate the amount it cost to bake a bread in terms of electric consumption.
Can anyone help?
thanks0 -
Hi there  We have an existing thread on whether breadmakers are worth using. I'll add your question so that ypu can browse the ideas there.

reading about peoples different opinions and experiences of breadmakers for a long time yesterday convinced me i should buy one. i love cooking and baking, and adore bread, and love kitchen gadgets. but which one to get?
after a lot of thought I was torn between the anthony worral and panasonic.
id rather spend a bit more on one and get the best, than forever wish i had later, and forever wish i didnt have an inferior or less popular or more basic model later. you may all already know that there are loads of cook books telling you how to make bread with a bread maker, there are also some groups you can join in yahoo groups, free, with recipes. if anyone has the time and wants to id appreciate it if they would contact me to help this
bread making virgin. my machine will be arriving in a few days. its 22nd august on a thursday. thanks everyone and thanks for what youve all already written, its helped a lot0 -
Hope this is in the right place
I'm gluten intolerant and a piddly little loaf of bread costs me £2. Sometimes the "kind" people at Tescos do two for £3 but not often.
We got some money from our wedding and I thought it might save me a lot of money in the long run to make my own bread. Has anyone had experience? Can they recommend it?
Can you get breadmakers that bake the bread as well?
Thanks0 -
I often make my own bread and we have a bread maker! They are so easy to use and a loaf cots us about 24/25p to make! The bread makers cost anything between £40 and £200!
They are so easy to use, you just chuck the ingredients in and press the button and it does it ALL for you
The only thing is the bread doesn't last that long! Because when the large bakeries make it for the shops they load it with preservatives to keep it fresh for longer. We usually get about 2 days out of our loavesbut they taste SOOOOOOOO good! lol
We make olive bread, cheese and onion loaves and all sortsIf you look online you can get hundreds of bread recipes!
and as you have celiac condition you will also find lots of wheat/gluten free recipes on there too!
Our bread maker also makes jam!lol
Hope this helps!
