I love my panny, for ages I followed group wondering whether to buy but some gift tokens make me take the plunge a few weeks ago have not regretted it, there is only 2 of us and I make 2 small loaves a week the way I want them, I made for next door and she went straight out to one as she has a large family, she brought the MR modle and she now loves it. I have stocked up on the hovis 29p as well they also have a grainery on offer 34p which I tried which was fine too.May 2009 Debt-Free Wannabe

Hi SmileyS,
There's an earlier thread that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the replies together.

How much the bread mix usually cost?
Depending on brand and shop, around 80p upwards, so the 29p white mix from Asda is a great bargain
Cheaper of course if you use your own ingredients, but a ready mix can be handy at times, however I find they are a bit salty to my taste, probably as I do not use a ot of salt noramlly so am not accustomed to itGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
I use my bm a lot and wondering how much it costs per loaf.
I am just looking for a rough cost, as I realise it will vary according to the tarriff you are on/0 -
I think it has been worked out at about 5p per loaf.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

I have checked my MR breadmaker's cost with a Maplin plug-in usage monitor. This is for a 1 and a half pound loaf (we get the Hovis bread mix from Asda at a silly 29p per bag!). I have checked it on 5 seperate occasions and each time the cost comes out at 4p (this is based on my cost of 12p per kwh with my energy company). With the price of the Hovis bread mixes at Asda, this makes making your own bread a n-brainer IMO!Call me Carmine....

I think until you've tried a breadmaker you'd think the way we gone on about them daft.
But I haven't bought a sliced loaf since getting one plus am having gorgeous home made pizzas for dinner again tonight, they are brill!0 -
I'm being slowly convinced about a breadmaker, so here's my daft question.....when you're slicing an ordinary loaf, what's the best way?
With my slicing skills I'd be looking at 6 slices per loaf which is definitely NOT MSE!0
