I have been sent a few emails with attatchments which my pc won't open. The message that comes up in a box reads 'This file does not have a program associated with it for perfoming this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel'. The thing is I don't know how to do that, can any1 help please? xxx

Can you see the properties of the file you cannot open, by which I mean, assuming it is called xxx.doc for instance (the xxx represents the name of the file and the information after the . will tell you which program can be used to open the file).

Post back and we can advise further.

If it's .ppt file, you need to have Powerpoint installed to open it. Or if you do not have Powerpoint, download Powerpoint Viewer free from Microsoft (just Google it). Then select that as the default program for opening files of that type (.ppt).
Remember, your computer is dumb, if it finds a file that it doesn't recognise then you have to tell it what program to open it with, and to then always use that program as the default.
Don't understand your ref to 'IE5/E21'?

Right click on the file, choose 'open with', browse to Ppt Viewer, select, and also select option 'always open files of this type with'
It should then remember it in future when you left click to open.

What options does it give you? Try Shift+right click maybe.
Have you saved the file to your desktop, rather than trying to open it from within your email program?
    What OS are you running?

Operating System (XP, Vista, W7 etc).
Right click, then browse to that program and select it as the default for opening files of that type.
