When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :T

Lordy lordy the thread was late on today so I thought I'd start it! (come back Milly:A)

    Morning determined! Thanks for starting us off - you pipped me to it!

    Today is another day at home finding things to do as well as boring uni work. Although it does look like the weather is going to be good so I may end up in the garden for a while at least.

    Today's list...
    • Do my presentation for next week (didn't even attempt this yesterday) done all of it!
    • Look at PPI (didn't do this either)
    • Post some letters - one is a job app done
    • Maybe post some ebay parcels - at least 1 will sell today and others have watchers with a few hours to go not been paid for them yet so will do it tmw
    • Fiddle with shopping list and meal plan - trying to shop locally instead of supermarkets this week in cash to really see how much I can get away with spending if I think more about what I'm buying done
    • Phone Tesco to see if they hire temporary summer workers
    • Have a quick shower this morning instead of a bath done
    • Walk dog for free exercise done, boiling in the park will wait until this evening for the next one, too hot for a furry doggy!
    • Think about listing a few more things on ebay - not sure what yet
    • Look at quidco etc to see if I can get a discount/cashback on a little 2 day break in August yes 8%
    That's all I can think of today - have a good day

    Good morning everyone!

    I didn't get chance to post yesterday as I was at DD's all day looking afer DGD. I took her swimming with DGS and his half/step siblings. Just had to pay for the two adults and all 4 children went free!

    Not very much on my list as I don't feel very inspired today. I accepted the job from he!! and start on Monday morning. PLEASE don't congratulate me as I don't want it, won't like it and am far from looking forward to it! :(

    Today I have:
    • received housekeeping from DS3 in cash so need to get it to the bank
    • hung out washing that was done overnight on Tuesday (DH didn't hang it out in sunshine yesterday :mad:)
    • moved and fed the chickens
    • checked bank accounts - not too bad actually
    • checked for surveys
    I will also:
    • clean out chicken coop and run in exchange for some eggies
    • finish green taffeta corset and start booking parties ;)
    • drop a lunch in to DS3 at the same time as collecting DD thus conserving diesel
    • have an NSD which will be the first this month
    • write meal plan for rest of month and generate shopping list from that
    • research changing home phone/broadband supplier as our DD is now not even covering the standing charges
    • sort out stuff to Ebay on Sunday's free listing
    Hmmm, I thought I said not much. I wonder how much I'll actually complete?

    Morning all, and thanks to DNMs for starting us off :)

    Stitching witch, sorry to hear about your new job :( Is it really so bad? How long will you need to do it for? Hope you manage to find a few small good things about it (even if it's only when you leave)

    Just did the first two days at my new job, which (sorry stitching witch) is fab. Absolutely exhausted though, left the house at 6.45am, back at 8pm on Tuesday, and 7pm last night, so pretty much nothing else done at all! So today's list is fairly 'housey' and PhD-related... So, in no particular order...

    * visit friend for nice cup of tea :rotfl:
    * washing on
    * hang washing up
    * tidy bedroom
    * figure out how to seal round flippin bath :mad:
    * water garden and plants
    * lots of PhD
    * 2 hours transcribing work
    * ring probation service
    * send friend's present
    * cheery run (free exercise)
    * surveys
    * food shopping
    * sort out budget

    That's it I think!

    Has anyone else been having trouble with Valued Opinions? I joined a couple of weeks ago, did 1 75p survey with no trouble, they invited me to take part in a £3 one, but none of the links would work, and I've had only an automated reply to my email, then they invited me to take part in a £30 one (after screening, of course), but the screening thing wouldn't let me enter my age, but wouldn't let me proceed without it! How very tantilising and frustrating! :mad:

    Ah well, onwards and upwards :T

    Hi , well as a long time lurker on the DFW board I felt it time that I start actually posting and getting the inspiration from all these wonderful threads. This month I really, really need to pull the reins in, alot! I have very little of my wages left this month so need to get some stuff listed on ebay at some point! My things for today are:

    1. Do all the washing and hang it on the line to take advantage of this glorious sunshine- Done
    2. Make a few loaves of bread and freeze them.
    3. Make a banana loaf out of the manky nanas I have in the fridge.
    4. Find and sort all the stuff I have for ebay. -Done
    5. Get hubbie to hire a rug doctor on his way home from work (his company pays for it, so it is free for us)
    6. Take back some clothes and get a refund.
    7. Pot the toms seeds, herb seeds and pepper seeds that I bought reduced from Homebase the other day!

    Well that's all so far, though I think that will keep me busy enough!

    Have a great day everyone.

    empy x

    Eeek getting a little behind need to pull my finger out, lol!

    Stitching witch, sorry to hear about your new job :( Is it really so bad? How long will you need to do it for? Hope you manage to find a few small good things about it (even if it's only when you leave)

    There are lots of things I don't like about it and only two advantages that I can see at the moment.
    It's a three part role: 4 days a month of Payroll, which was my previous full time job so can do that, 4-6 days a month of Accounts, which I did at college for a year many moons ago but think I'll remember quite quickly, and the rest of the time is "client admin" which will also involve working on reception, never done that, and chasing prospective clients to buy the services. I don't do sales! I hate people trying to sell me stuff so couldn't do it to someone else.

    The money is terrible, much lower than I can afford to live on really. First advantage - I have managed to negotiate a 9 day fortnight so can still look after DGD alternate Wednesdays, but they won't agree to me having shorter lunchbreaks to try to ofset a few hours. The other advantage is that it's only three miles from home, and once the bike is MOTd it will cost about £5 a week in fuel.

    The biggest blow is that I'll need to work there for about 2 years to clear my debts (if the budget will stretch to it) and that puts my business plans backwards. Who would want a 53 year old granny to measure them up for a corset???:mad:

    Oh sorry, just realised what a rant that is - but I do feel better for having got it off my chest!

    Hey there. Meh on the low income - not fair!

    Anyway, I know it's not the main focus of your issue but - 53 ain't an old granny and I personally, if I ever wanted to have a corset made, would prefer a more mature woman rather than some young whipper-snapper who would most likely snigger at my cellulite, bingo wings and down to my hips b00bies... (not that I have those yet, but it will happen, I'm sure!)

    What kind of corsets? Fantast, norty ones or holdem in out of necessity types? If the former - how wonderful!!
