HELP what visitors have I got??
opened greenhouse door this morning and found 5 of my tomato plants with shallow roots showing, something or someone seems to have been digging the compost up around the stem, cant anything in the greenhouse. I always leave window and door open during the day as it gets very hot in there.
Any suggestions as to what it is? Plants are all very healthy.

dont think squirrels can get into greenhouse, its brand new and no holes etc. Mice cant find any way they can get it. Its strange soil at top roots of plants had been scraped away and a 2" hole in compost.Another thing I have cats and dogs and only a small courtyard garden with no grass only a stone base with a 8" raided bed around the yard. Have a shed but cant see anything distrubed in there. And the plants are all raised about 3ft in the greenhouse so something would have to do some climbing to get at them. HELP:eek:Look after the pennys and the pounds will look after themselves:money:0

I'd still suggest mice or sqidgels, they are very adept at getting in where you would not expect.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

If you leave the door and windows open during the day, which you say you do, a mouse could easilly sneak in, find a dark cosy corner somewhere to sleep, then come out at night causing havoc when you 'think' your plants are safely shut away  Mice is still my guess..."Your life is what your thoughts make it"

Well if the doors open the squirrel can just walk right on in:)#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Well this evening im not going to sleep. I shall keep watch from the kitchen with my torch and frighten whatever it is away. Ive moved everything so I know its not a mouse, keep it very tidy and very clean, nothing on the floor only plants on aluminimum benches. I have noticed a few tiny frogs leaping around next doors garden as the neighbours next to them have a pond. So could it be a frog? At the moment the temperature in the GH is over 40C so anything hidden will be well cooked f its warm bloodied. Anyhow heres to this evening and thanks for your kind suggestions.;)Look after the pennys and the pounds will look after themselves:money:0

I leave my greenhouse door open as well, but block it at the bottom with a large piece of perpex to stop my cat jumping in there (he only has 3 legs and doesn't do jumping very well!!)

I would also suggest mice, they seem able to get everywhere! We have them in our loft, our garage and even between our walls in the cavity. They will get through amazingly tight gaps and seem too clever to be caught by any of our cunning traps so far! Good luck!0

Ginger Snap... have you tried a teeny blob of peanut butter on mousetraps? We had a terrible problem at our old house, honestly I was a nervous wreck and absolutely couldn't stand being in the house. This worked for us, completely got rid of them."Your life is what your thoughts make it"
