Our Budget Veggie Growing *Updated Pics*

I wanted to post a few pics of our veg-growing progress. This is our first garden ever, in 10 years, so we are very new to it all and learning/making mistakes as we go. The help and advice received on this forum has been invaluable :T Hope you like the pictues:
Tomato Plants grown from seed yay!

Leeks (sown slightly late)

Herbs (Coriander, Parsley and Chives, Thyme, Oregano)

French Beans and Swede in front

Peas ready for planting out and more French Beans coming through

Two rows Swede and two rows Carrots

Four rows Carrots and two rows Spring Onion

Iceburg Lettuce

Rocket

Hope you don't mind so many pictures!
Everything is a work in progress, and has been/is being done on a very tight budget. We are recycling anything we can: Used timber recycled to make the raised beds. All pots and containers collected from Freegle. Trellis for French Beans homemade using scrap wood and some old garden twine. And all seeds were bought with Nectar Points as we were broke when the time came for buying

Those pics look great emptypockets! I'm also growing swede, carrots, beetroot, tomatoes, lettuce, potatoes, runnerbeans, peas and cucumber. This is my second year and i still feel like i'm a novice lol. I think its trial and error. I tried to grow cauliflower and cabbage last year with no joy! There is nothing better in my opinion than stepping outside your door and picking lettuce,or digging up a few spuds. Good luck!0

The raised beds look really good and so does your french bean trellis - ta for sharing
Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!0 -
Got just a few more for you - don't worry the batteries have run out in my camera now haha!
The 'homemade' fence around our little veggie patch.
When we moved in, there was a horrible rickety piece of fence panel stuffed down the side of the house, so we stripped all the boards off of it, repainted them, and reused them to make this fence, gate and all.
Our little bird corner
And two of the raised beds
The middle raised bed is made from an old wooden pallet! And the two either side are from old sleepers, given to us by my dad from his garden shed."Your life is what your thoughts make it"

We are also growing Cabbage in the veggie patch but batteries ran out before I got the pics: so far we're pleased with them, don't really know what's good or bad when it comes to cabbage, but they look ok to us!"Your life is what your thoughts make it"

Fantastic photos and so inspiring. :j
I particularly liked two things:
* your budget trellis and I'm going to copy it today!
* the long raised bed - it's a good shape for access.
That's what I love about gardening. I'm still learning even though I've been growing food for yonks. Not only can I learn from old hands that have been at it for years, but also from new gardeners who come to the task with fresh eyes.
Brilliant. :beer:0 -

Aww thanks that's brilliant. I've taken so many ideas and so much inspiration from people here it's good to give a little back
For the French Bean trellis, we just used lots of old, scrap 2x2 for the posts, knocked in a load of nails down one side on each, then used the garden twine around the nails to create the trellis effect. Then we used garden canes threaded or weaved through the string for each plant to grow up.
When we had positioned the trellis and we sunk the posts into the ground, we realised we'd lost quite a bit of height, so we added some extra posts to the tops of the 2x2 and attached green mesh across the top. The mesh was a little straggly piece found stuffed behind the hedge by previous owners!"Your life is what your thoughts make it"

Great pictures EP - you've worked so hard. You should be really proud.
Can I ask question? You mentioned in your other thread that you'd painted your fences this year? Can I ask what the make & colour of the stain / paint is? I've bought about 3 different ones so far this year and none of them have turned out like the colour on the tin. With over 20 panels to paint, I've rapidly been losing the will to live, lol! Your colour is exactly what I'm looking for.

Thanks very much for the compliments on our garden, we really are proud of it so far.
The fence paint we used this year was THIS one from Wickes: Colour DARK Brown as shown in the picture - it covers really well, we only did one coat (cos we couldn't afford the paint for two coats Lol!)"Your life is what your thoughts make it"
