TV USB function

Hi Folks
I am looking to set up a new sky/freesat system and am examining various possibilities so I can achieve maximum potential.
I aim to get a new LCD TV (not too costly) and I feel a USB port would be a definite asset. On some of the TV specs it simply says that the TV's have a USB port whilst on others it says that the TV has "Built-in PVR recording capability (via USB port)"
Would I be correct in assuming that a TV with "built in PVR recording capability" is able to record programmes to an external hard drive (and possibly a pen drive) connected to the USB port?
Would it also be correct to say that TV's with a USB port (but without PVR functionality) cannot record to external hard drive?
Does this mean that one type of USB port can input data whilst the other kind (the one with PVR func) can both input and output data?
Help appreciated to clarify this point before I rush off and buy.

Most TV USB ports are for viewing photos and videos only. There are very few TVs that can record via USB, but they are out there. If it has PVR recording functionality, then it will be able to record to a hard drive or USB stick connected into it.
If it doesn't mention it, assume it doesn't have it.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Thanks for clearing that up.0 -
Also be careful re USB ports - some TVs will only allow their use for video/photo import after the s/ware has been hacked; AV forums are full of stories of people who hacked the software and then had to pay out to get their TV working again!!!0
