£9.99 Master-Slave (Intelligent) Multi Plug Adaptor

Tchibo are selling Master-Slave Adaptors for £9.99:

I have the One Click version of this which I paid £30 for - http://www.oneclickpower.co.uk/home.htm

Basically you plug your computer into the master socket and your peripherals into the slave sockets - e.g. speakers, printer, monitor, etc

When you switch off your PC, all the slave sockets switch off. When you switch on your PC, all the slave sockets switch on. It may not sound too exciting but many computer peripherals use a lot of electricity in standby. This product will pay for itself in a year. The OneClick version quotes it could save 100 kilowatt hours per year.

My 2 arrived from tchibo this morning. They have surge protection built in too as well as phone line surge protection.
There is a switch on them so you can use them as regular 6 way adaptors ( to turn the master / slave system off). There is also an adjustment screw for the master socket so you can adjust it to allow for items that have a higher current drain when in standby ( otherwise all your slave sockets would stay on when the master socket item is in standby).

    EDIT
WELL AFTER A DAY OF ADJUSTING I HAVE GIVEN UP. THEY JUST DON'T WORK WITH MY PC AS THE MASTER DEVICE .. see my later post on this thread

i wonder how this copes with 2 pc's

i currently have an 8 way, with 5 sockets in use.

    1 monitor
    1 pc
    1 pc
    1 printer
    1 speakers

could be a bit problematic if i shut down one computer and it takes the other with it.

I have the problem that my router is also connected and I also use my laptop on one of the spare sockets, which means they'd switch off if the PC isn't on :(

I guess I'll just have to keep switching the mains off each night :(

Apparantly you can switch the master slave setting off so it does not shut down everything

Have just ordered one a I need extra sockets and the surge protector will be handy
