Thanks folks, we'll be sorting out a letter in writing ASAP - I have no idea what happened to the other tenancy agreement, but I know for sure we should have had a copy. We don't deal with our landlord very much at all, everything is arranged by the LA, we have an assigned property manager at the LA who deals with all the problems and such, much to my chagrin, because he doesn't seem very competent, and dithers a lot. Also, we pay by direct debit, so with-holding payment or insinuating we will, won't really work, they'll probably take the money out anyway.

We've been calling them regularly, nicely asking for a copy of the agreement, and then fobbed off with excuses like 'We only give out the agreement at the end of the tenancy' (doesn't make sense to us, but there's probably *some* reason for it?) I feel very uneasy that they are so cagey and dismissive when we ask for a copy.

We won't get Housing Benefit without the agreement, and especially at the moment, we're struggling as OH tries to find clients.

The formal letter seems like the best bet for the moment, if that yields no results, we'll just have to reapply for Housing Benefit when we *do* have a copy of the agreement.

The assumption about the dodgy AST is simply because they won't give a copy out.

Most likely they just lost it and don't want to admit it.
