:wave:Can anyone help me please? I need to run the Recovery Media Disc for my mini laptop, its a Freedom 8.9in by Zoostorm and has no CD/DVD Rom. I presume you have to either connect it to a free standing CD/DVD Rom, which I do not have, the other option would be to connect it to another computer. Would I have to connect them via a USB cable, if so would the disc then automatically find the Mini Laptop and start to work.
I would love some advice.

You can't just connect your PC via USB to your laptop. You could try to install Windows from a USB stick. I found some instructions here

Dont't know how easy it will be for you. I don't understand why MS doesn't make it possible to install Windows over a network or USB. Every Linux I know can be installed over FTP/NFS/HTTP/NFS (you pick one). Ubuntu even has an easy to use USB Startup Disk Creator.
While writing this I just remember that MS had such a tool available for some time, but had to admit that it "stole" some of the code from Ubuntu. Don't know what happened to it...
Just found the link in the other link above. It's available (again).

It has been possible to install Windows over a network for years, you simply change the boot order so that the computer boots from the network interface first.I don't understand why MS doesn't make it possible to install Windows over a network or USB.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -

Ok, then explain "John Smith" how to install a RIS or a TFTP server...

The OP isn't asking how to install windows - he's asking how to use his/her recovery CD.KillerWatt wrote: »It has been possible to install Windows over a network for years, you simply change the boot order so that the computer boots from the network interface first.
Most likely the only way without a lot of messing around which still probably won't work is to use a USB external DVD/CD drive and boot the recovery CD from it.
That said most laptops these days have a recovery partition - are you sure that yours doesn't? There should be some instructions on how to access it - possibly just pressing F8 at boot time will give you the option.0 -

Let's call "John Smith" "Joe Average". Do you get my point? No need to explain it to me.
Let's end this conversation here. I posted a working solution in my first post.0 -

Why bother recommending an advanced solution to an 'average' person as you put it. It isn't going to be of any help at all and will just confuse them further, just keep the solution as simple as necessary.
chasherell; do you have a USB Memory stick at least 4GB in size and do you feel confident enough to follow instructions?
If not, then you're going better off buying a USB CD/DVD Drive and doing the restore as you normally would do.0 -

I was just answering KillerWatt. Didn't mean to confuse the OP. The solution in the second link of my first post should do it.0 -
Tried F8 dose not work F2 takes u into utility set up and F12 takes you into Boot Manager, on the screen it says Boot Option Menu use up and down arrows to change option, Enter to select an option, Esc to exit and the only 1 that works is Esc to exit so im asuming it needs to be conected to external dvd rom before it willdo anything.0
