Virgin Media saying I'm in a contract when I'm not

Hi,
I've been with VM for 10 years. I have a rubbish box that isnt HD or V+. I couple of months ago, I asked VM for an upgrade and they want £75 for the pleasure. I then said I would go to Sky and therefore wanted to cancel my services with them.
They then told me that last September, when I upgraded to XL TV package (for a loyalty offer of £1 per month), that I entered into a 12 month contract. They said that I had signed one. I asked for a copy of this contract. They then back-tracked and said that I hadnt signed one, but that they sent confirmation of the contract through the post. I told them I never received one (not sure if I did). They said that I had verbally agreed to enter the contract on the telephone, so I asked for a copy of the phone call. They couldnt provide that either.
They told me to write to Ofcom, which I did. they said they dont deal with TV service complaints. Virgin Media then sent me a letter telling me to write to CISAS. At the bottom of the letter, it says that CISAS only deal with Telephony and Internet services!
What can I do?
I dont know whether I did agree to a contract or not, I couldnt say 100% that I didnt, but surely its for them to prove the contract?

Usually when they offer this, they also tell you it's a new 12 month contract. The usual applies if you call to disconnect and they offer you a deal, your stuck with it for 12 months. I have read in numerous places that they are notorious for not telling people this though.
However any time I have have entered into one of these deals, it has always been explained that a new 12 month contract applies.
Wouldn't know where you would take it further though.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
