Just responding to a direct insult. Not sure what else to say, that's the reality, my wife and I are both doctors and earn a relatively decent wage.
If it makes you feel better by pretending that I earn below the average wage, live in social housing and post here because I'm jealous of all those who paid a premium for a slave box, then go for it.

Actually, it wasn't direct at all, you just couldn't resist the urge to willywave.

The reality is that anyone who's on that much wouldn't be !!!!ing and moaning non stop on a forum about an extra £50-100 a month.

I bet you split the bill for exactly what you had when you eat out at restaurants as well.

    I don't understand your 1st para?

We live in a democracy, where the needs of the majority take precedence.

My first paragraph was a response to the fact that people are bring up the 'eat your broccoli, starving children in Africa' old chestnut where it isn't really relevant. Yes there are huge problems with poverty in the developing world, yes most people in the UK have many more opportunities and much more security in comparison. But I don't see how the fact that there are children begging in Cambodia means that someone in the UK who's had misfortune somehow deserves it?

Iveseenthelight's original comment was that he would teach his children that they'd get out of life what they put in. I'm merely pointing out that its entirely possible to put in a lot of hard work and get a minimum wage job, redundancy, a cheating spouse, or run over by a bus and paralysed for your troubles.

Sorry for the rant but Westerners should really know better before they spread their "charity" around.

I presume you are not aware of the attrocities that occured in Campbodia.

Maybe some people need to educate themselves before they question others charity

Ah good, Doctors, so we're paying you then?

As your employer (or at least one of them) would you mind maybe closing the browser down and seeing a few patients please?

And when you've done that, maybe you'd consider a contract renegotiation so that we're not mortgaging our childrens' future to the national debt.

What do you think about overpaid public servants by the way?

Of course not everybody leads a miserable tough existence, I certainly don't. But some people do, and listening to opinions like yours that suggest that they should be able to just pull themselves together probably doesn't help!

Maybe I have come across too strongly.
I simply infer that it is within each and every one of us to deal with life as best as we can given our circumstances.

Do you believe that this is reflective of many of the posters in here?
On the contrary, waht we here is nothing to do with health etc, just the whinging that it's too expensive and that it must become cheaper in order for them to be included.

I simply believe for the majority, it's time to wake up to reality and go and do something about it.
Their current nattempts appear to have been unsuccessful

To put it simply, if I want to buy a house and find it unnafordable, do I: -

    a) Moan and complain on a forum that house prices must lower
    b) Consider my position and how I can improve my affordabiliy to meet the market requirement
    c) Decide to wait and hope that the house I want come down to my affordability, whilst also invoking a)
    d) consider my position and lower my expectations in order to achieve my goal albeit at a lower more realistic level given the market conditions, possibly requireing to move to an alternative area to suit my financial conditions.

Most people need to learn to live within their means, not over spending on luxury items not necessary and not expecting everything to be available now.

Previous generations have not had it so good as people do nowadays, so why is there so much moaning.

    I just don't understand it.

Seriously, what ARE you talking about?
£50 per month equates to less than £10,000 over 25 years, or about 3% on the houses we're looking at. Peanuts. The figures I'm quibbling about are obviously too big for you to compute.

I'm very well aware thank you, I took time to educate myself before I went, and saw it first hand while I was there. I am also well aware of the corrupting influence of well meaning but ignorant tourists giving money to children sent out to beg by their families.

There are many charities doing good work in Cambodia that deserve support, but their work is undermined as long as it is profitable for "cute" kids to beg. Anyway, this is ultimately off topic now.

Actually I worked last night, so today is a rest day, unless you think I should be anaesthetising people having had no sleep.
Overpaid public sector workers are a disgrace. You're clearly implying that I'm overpaid. If you think that £60k per year with no bonuses or perks at all for a relatively senior doctor working 50 hours a week including nights, weekends and Christmas (invariably) in a job that actually does involve visibly saving lives and out of which comes at least £2k in exam and registration fees, then there are a lot of overpaid people in this country.
The problem is that public perception of doctors pay is wildly skewed by the odd sensationalist Daily Mail headline about the odd £250k GP. These GPs are few and far between and own the practices they work in. They probably still get paid less than most dentists.
The truth is that Doctors wages have been gradually squeezed over the last decade and relatively speaking are significantly lower than 30 years ago.

On the contrary, you could say I am providing for my children.

One day they will inherit my estate, although not necessarily when the good wife and I die.

I don't expect either that my children will be "priced out" of property.

I'm sure the thought of owning their first home aged 50, is a most uplifting aspiration.

    well said :T
The best one I saw was a small campbodian girl who instead of begging, used her charm.
She must have been about 3 or 4 maximum and with a big smile asked me where I was from.
Wwhen I replied Scotland she said a few facts about Scotland like the capital is Edinburgh.

This is a girl who has been dealt a harsh hand but is getting on with it and using some information and ability to maximise her situation.

Tell me, how many 3 or 4 year olds know the capitol of Campbodia?
without searching, how many on here know the capitol of Campbodia.

This girl, instead of begging of whining like so many others adapted her situation to improve herself and her family.

Please don't come back about how her family is using her (albeit that it may have been true). It's a story about how people can use the hand dealt to a better position than what others do.

Not only do I know that the capital of Cambodia is Phnom Penh I also know that Cambodia doesn't have a P in it :p
