I fully sympathise with your situation. About a month back i had a pain in my tooth and landed up with a heavy treatment for just below £200.

How about purchasing dental covers from HSA? I think they give you about £296 per year
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction!
  • I think that you can get free dental treatment by going to your local NHS hospital. I think the service might be called Dental Line and may be intended primarily for emergency out of hours treatment.

I have used it a couple of times. It does usually involve queueing for a while, much as you might queue in Accident & Emergency, but they do see you eventually. I am no expert on this method but I feel that if you try it you need to go out of usual dentist's hours and "lay it on thick" as far as saying that the pain is really bad and too bad to suffer while waiting for a conventional appointment with your usual dentist.

The other thing to mention is that I am reasonably sure that many or most of the dentists doing routine stuff in the out of hours hospital dentist are either newly qualified or virtually qualified. I suppose that they have to complete their training somewhere! This sounds off putting but both times I have been treated it has been fine.

My view is that a filling, extraction or treatment for an abcess would be fine but perhaps something more complex like a route canal filling should be left to your regular dentist.

    I hope this all helps.

have you thought abt denplan... you pay a monthly fee of around £15 £20 depending on how much treatment you have had in the past. You should at least be able to see your dentists when you in pain and also you can use them when you away in other cities.. and the best thing is that when you pay monthly you dont have a huge bill to pay ... you also get a yearly trip to they hygenist and also the 2 half yearly vists to your dentist
Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
    Are thinking of you today.

I count myself as lucky cos I've got an NHS dentist but have just been told I need £1,000's worth of treatment doing which, (surprise, surprise!), cannot be done on the NHS :-/ :-/ :-/

I did a search using Moneysupermarket.com and came up with a plan via WPA (Western Provident) as the best value. I signed up. They don't enquire into your history like Denplan.
