I had this same sort of problem when I wanted some custard powder I asked a young lass for custard and she took me to the tinned stuff when I said 'No I wanted the powder she was quite taken by the fact that you could buy it not already made up in a tin .Do folk not make custard anymore ? I don't like the tinned stuff and think its very expensive for what it is I used to make it with eggs and god knows what else years ago, but now find a tin of powder just as useful.Everything seems to be instant this or instant that .My local shops even sell frozen omelettes for goodness sake How long does it take to mix a couple of eggs up.What do people do with all this saved time they apparently can have ,they still seem just as stressed and busy

    Hi Lolly :)

You have now had loads of OS input, so I have moved this to shopping and groceries

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

There is a previous thread you can see which may also offer some help - Rice pudding - where?
    Thanks

On a related question - does anyone know where to buy Flaked Rice these days - I last found some in my local Co-op, but that was over a year ago now.

My grandma prefers it as it makes a lighter rice pudding than normal rice.

I bought some in my local sainburys last week it was reduced to 33p for a 500g packet making it cheaper then then normal pudding rice.

The young female SA asked me what it was and I told her she could make rice pudding with it and she said she loved rice pudding.

Morrisons do the cheapest pudding rice £1.56 for 1kg of the stuff.

I adore rice pudding but usually make it with a big tin of eveporated milk plus a tin and a half of water added to it to make it up to 1 and a half pints altogether.top it up with ordinary milk to two pints and this makes a fab rice pud that lasts almost all the week in the fridge (if I haven't scoffed it all) I also put sultanas in and they really plump up beautifully,I also love to sprinkle a bit of grated cinnamon on the top for a slightly spicy flavour

My local petrol station sells vac packed, cooked jacket tatties. They are £1.00 for 2 and and only take 4mins to re-heat in the microwave. I always buy them now because they're tasty...I spend the 4mins opening the tuna and mixing it with the mayo!! :rotfl:
