Monthly broadband

Please help. I am moving to London and need broadband ... however I cannot sign up for a 12 month contract as I will maybe only be in London for 6 months before moving abroad.
Any advice on the cheapest monthly broadband offers (ie where you are not tied into a 12 month contract). Maybe it is cheaper to pay for a 12 month contract as line rental is cheaper per month???
The flat I'm moving to does not have a BT line and would prefer not to have to pay for this.
Thanks so much for any advice people have!!

With Virgin you are not committed to a 12-month contract but the downside is you have to pay a £50 cancellation fee if you cancel within the first 12 months.
You still need a BT line of course:(0 -
Thanks fonesaver. Do you know if there are other companies without a cancellation fee ... £50 is the equivalent of approx about 3 months.

If so I'm not sure, other than cable with Telewest/NTL how you're going to get internet at all?0 -
i don't thonk you'll find a company which will give you free activation, modem, etc - without such a cancellation fee within 12 months.... since it will cost the ISP itself £47 for activating your line... so if you leave after the first month - then they have lost close to £42 on you....
... I'd rather have this in place, than causing an ISP to crash due to people expoliting such an offer, by either cancelling, or migrating away to a better deal - since the ISP in question could go bust... although I did the same join Virgin in being, befor ethis thing came into force, and moved to Zazizam, and cut my unlimited 512k connection by £7 or so a month
there is no such thing as a free lunch in this competitive market0
