I'm sure that given Play's high profile & volume of trade, by the law of averages, there would be quite a number of people not 'getting away with it'
if UK customers were getting hit up for extra charges, I'm certain we'd have heard about it by now

besides, as I mentioned above, surely they'd warn their customers, why do it on the international site & not on the UK one? nasty surprises would only lose them trade

I agree Swan. No disrespect to you quoia as you clearly have plenty of knowledge on this area, but to use the "law of averages", I think this would have come up as a problem area on MSE or even the national news by now.

Or are we just a load of lucky sods? :D

I have bought alot of stuff from PLAY before too as do my friends. And there are many occasions we bought stuff over £90 and we do not get taxed or anything.

In fact I haven't heard anybody getting taxed from buying things off a huge retailer like PLAY.

I think you'll find there is an arrangement to turn a blind eye or something to play/amazon/tesco jersey 'imports'.... I've never heard of anyone paying vat from these at all. or from cdwow.... the law of averages with such large volumes means we would have atleast heard from a few people....

Play send stuff over £18 from the UK, I received something from them 2 months ago that cost £100.

Now, if I have videos on a portable external drive like this, can I just plug it straight into a tv and play stuff off it, or does it need a PC ?

requires a pc, it has a usb connection hence goes into the pc.

this looks like it goes directly into a tv with your videos:

  • The Derby guy chatting on and on about play is scaremongering to be annoying. I've bought literally dozens of items from play that cost more than £18 and have never been charged duty.

Don't let the killjoy put you off a bargain.
