Sorry - went off to get dressed!!
Click on "Services" and in the box next to it you should get a long list of programmes and such. They are in alphabetical order, so if you scroll down you should be able to see "iPod Service" in that box.
Right at the bottom of the box are two tabs - "Extended" and "Standard". Try looking in both. It should be the same list but you may find one easier to look through than the other. In the beginning, the universe was created. Hi Oscar. Just typed up a long post and then lost it!
I am so Stupid
Whilst you were away I looked in msconfig to see if ipod servece was ticked. It was not. I ticked it and applied. Restarted but left ipod attached to usb. PC did not fully open but ipod did show as CONNECTED.
Powered down and restarted but got System Config utility message to say PC starting in Selective mode and to choose normal startup. I did this and now of courese on startup EVERYTHING opens up so it takes an age. I have managed to undo all the good work that had been done to enable my PC to open up quickly and run well.
I then started itunes but no connection to ipod made.
I AM A TOTAL MENACE and should not be allowed within 100 yards of a PC.
I will have to throw myself on the mercies of those who can help me with this BUT in the meantime, what am I lookinfg for on the lists you mentioned?Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -
Sounds like you are having a lot of trouble there!!
Once you've found "iPod Service", you simply double click it and on the "General" tab, click "Stop".
After that, connect the iPod to the PC.
Once the iPod is plugged in, click "Start" and "OK". Then close the windows down and open iTunes. The iPod should be there.
On MSCONFIG, sort the list into "Manufacturer" order, then you can leave everything that is Microsoft or Apple alone. Uncheck anything you recognise and don't want loading at startup, then reboot. After that, disable other things in singles or pairs, so you can recognise what's good and what's not.
Let me know how you get on!!In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Hi
The story of my life ..... certainly where computers are concerned
I did as you said but itunes still did not recognise my ipod.
I then decided to bite the bullet and did a full unistall and reinstall. (had my backup as per your earlier instructions).
Thrilled to fnd that my ipod is now recognised again and I did not even need to use the backup of my music. I did not lose it.
Thanks so much for holding my hand through this. I only have the confidence to try things because I know there is help at hand when I screw things up. This is a wonderful forum and I would just like to thank all of you who came to my aid, especially you Oscar for your perseverance.
I will now plod through the items on my Start up but there are a lot that I have no idea about. I assume that if I do as you say and uncheck one or two at a time, I can always go back and recheck them in case of a problem?Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0
