Try pluging your cable into another USB port. If that doesn't work, try using Hubby's cable in the new USB port. If that still does not work, there is something on the Applewebsite about re-setting the permissions.

- Quit iTunes.
- Click the Start menu and right-click on My Computer/Computer, then click Manage. If Windows requires your permission to continue, click Continue.
- Click the plus symbol to the left of Services and Applications.
- Select Services listed under Services and Applications.

- Double click iPod Service in the right hand panel.
- Click the Stop button under the General tab and leave the iPod Service Properties window open.
- Connect your iPod and wait until it is visible in My Computer/Computer.
- Click the Start button in the iPod Service Properties window.
- Open iTunes.

Have done that but can't see ipod device under My Computer. Can I just close the Computer management box at this stage?
Also tried another USB port
