If you look at the forums (just google ford focus clutch issue) you will see this is a fairly common problem.

However as so many focus are sold its hard to know whether thats the reason its a common problem or if there is a design issue.

The DMF is a costly repair and it does make you ask the question when you buy your next car. My wifees diesel cmax had the same issue at 30k and 3 years and 1 month old. We got some goodwill but it still wasnt cheap.

Hunt around for an independent. Admittidly the parts are not cheap but the difference between a £50 labour rate and the £90 rate main dealers charge add up on what is a lengthy job. Think book time is something like 5 or 6 hours.

DMF's are expensive i would search for an aftermarket to revert it back to a normal flywheel (like the rover 75's have DMF's but some clutch manufacterers like LUK and VALEO have an option to put the back to normal flywheels) im not sure such a aftermarket item as new as this would have this option! i know that relativly new ford transits have DMF's and a DMF for an aftermarket from valeo is around £300.00 plus vat to the trade! for a transit!

and then you factor in the cost of the clutch (friction plate and clutch cover) and CSC concentric slave cylinder (hydrolic slaves are sold separatly) or thrust bearing commonly know as!

the clutch-DMF-CSC will be about 150 less than dealer i could imagine then you add on vat and labour.

No point putting a solid flywheel in unless you are going to keep the car for the next 100,000 miles.

when were doin DMF's we alays put a new clutch in for the extra (small) cost involved.

I changed my wife's clutch for about £200, bought the clutch off an eBay seller , and the clutch was changed in about 3 hours from a guy who uses a van as a mobile garage, it was done on my drive way, and he gave me a receipt for work. If you are friendly with a taxi driver ask him where he and his mates go, trust me its their living they will know the best garages and people to do work.
