My wages dont stretch far after I have paid for my house, Tv license, phone bill and my car. Im left with very little to live on.
I really hate people who can work but dont and get everything on their doorstep for them!!!
I'm afraid this is just how it is.
I also the sole wage earner in our household, supporting my partner and often, by extension, his non-resident children. We have no kids of our own. Yes it can seem unfair when having kids would trigger all sorts of other payments, or splitting up and living apart is more 'profitable'.
Ultimately as it's the system at fault there's not a great deal of benefit to be had in railing against it, instead you find other ways to survive and you use your vote to bring in a political party who you think will change things. It could be that you need to 'skill up' to get a better paid job, or you both need to find something which he can do in his own time from home that'd contribute. Budgeting also is important, so look at things like bulk cooking/freezing. If you have a car that's costing you a fortune (I'm sure insurance would be high if you're young), then think about trading it in for a moped instead - if you go for an electric moped then you don't even pay road tax.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

How very judgemental. Household bills for my boyfriend and I come to £1020 per month and we have no TV, it doesn't include our cars (we cycle to work so I see our cars as a personal spend), it doesn't include our mobiles (both PAYG for around £10-20 per year) and we are very frugal with bills. Clothes, transport, entertainment, presents, lunches, any discretionary spending is not included in that £1020. I really don't see how one wage of £1000 a month can support two people.0

Do you have a high mortgage or rent though?
The OP is paying a very small amount for rent, even with arrears on top.
If you don't have high housing costs, I suggest you could drastically cut your outgoings as there is no way an average couple should be spending that amount of money on bills alone.
You would be a great couple for one of Martins budget makeovers as you must be paying well over the odds for something(s)!0 -
It might be worth looking up the cystic fibrosis trust,
http://www.cftrust.org.uk/aboutcf/publications/factsheets/Financial_Help.pdf
There is a bit about being able to help financially with the cost of a first prescription certificate..... then if you put a bit aside each month you'll be able to afford the following years.

i absolutely love ppl on here , who tell others to struggle through and they shouldnt be entitled to anything. These are the same ppl living off benefits who have sky, go on holiday, free rent ,no council tax, arent studying to better themselves and ultimately benefit the economy by earning more and paying more tax. Really its a complete joke, telling someone they are being greedy for looking at what benefits they may be able to recieve, yet there are posters on here all day obviously not working, some claiming benefits , u guys still have ur internet running so you can make fun and laugh at ppl and make jokes telling them to get rid of it .(i would like to point out im not talking about ppl who really need to be on benefits and still struggle)0

If someone clearly isn't entitled to benefits and ignores all attempts to find alternative ways of helping them, there is little that can be done.
I guess we could tell the OP to claim everything going and she will be well off, but it wouldn't be true and she'd soon be back with another rant at us for misleading her.
As for your other point, have you heard of night shifts?0 -
