Problem is, it may be someone else's crop; but once it is in the pollen and starts moving across everyone else's crops; it's everyone's problem.
We all know that the big companies are going hell bent for GM purely because it ties the grower into continuous supply [as they GM the crops to ensure sterile seed thus the grower HAS to go back to the supplier or no crops the next year]....and it stinks! Profit before the planet [again], this time under the guise of 'maximising yields for you Mr Grower'.

(It used to be one dollar a day, but Barack Obomber and Helicopter Ben have inflated the dollar.) We have GM companies selling seed to these paupers that will only last one crop. Then they have to buy more seed from these companies. That's GM crops. So when I hear about the French government trying to introduce this filth by the back door, and I hear that the French farmers came on a dark night and burnt the lot, I smile, and I say: "Good for them!"

I did say I did not like GM-and its for those reasons-the companies sell it as a great yield etc etc etc, but the farmers cannot save seed to grow it on-thats why I do not think we should have it in this country (and I do not buy stuff if it is GM) I AGREE that GM crops are mostly not a good thing, and that we should NOT be growing it here.

Hmm. One person's criminal is another's freedom fighter.
The problem is the big companies have the ability to pay off the lawmakers so that these things are allowed [back door or no back door - under the guise of research and let the bees do the job of passing the GM about].
If the gvt haven't got the ba11s to avert global disaster; there might be a day when these fanatics are heroes for their criminal acts.0 -

But if you condone one faction doing things like that then what is there to stop ANYONE who truly believes in their cause (whether it be right or wrong) thinking they deserve to be a hero?
The IRA/UVF/Al queda/animal liberation front/extreme right to lifers/extremists of any kind-all believe their cause is right, and what they do is justified, and some people support them-does that make what they do right?
Anyway, sorry for going OT. will stop now0 -

Isn't this the same argument that kept Nelson Mandela in prison for so long...he was an 'extremist' fighting against the laws in his country...laws aren't always right!
Anyway back to bread - my personal opinion, based on little fact, is that even the worst hm white bread with cheap supermarket flour is better than the equivalent factory produced pap! Bread forms a tiny proportion of my families diet so I am happy they are getting plenty of nutrients elsewhere despite my shocking use of white flour!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

OK, so you don't like GM crops. You, and just about everybody else, make it clear that you do not want to eat this carp, and you do not want it grown in this country. But the government listen to Monsanto instead of its electorate and press on regardless.

I have to say I couldn't give a rats !!! if homemade is better or worse for me, but the taste of homemade is just unbeatable.
I am currently working my way through a homemade loaf fortified with chocolate spread and cinnamon (rolled up the dough like a sausage roll to make a swirl) and it is actually the stuff of dreams, Makes it worth getting out of bed in the morning just to have another slice!
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm only 17 hours to go until breakfast!0 -
I throw everything into my bread. Nuts, cranberries, wheat or oat bran. makes it a lot more interesting !
YOu're giving me ideas here Mardatha - cranberries and walnuts sounds possible....:D
Now - has anyone tried using yogurt in breadmaking? Is it possible? I have used whey as a bit of the liquid in a loaf of bread and it was fine and probably increased the nutritional value quite a bit:D0 -

Hmmm...now pondering whether I could make some sort of equivalent with carob powder/cinnamon......sorta "swiss roll" with carob powder and bit of honey (and nuts - eg hazelnuts) mixed in with something thick/liquidy type texture.
Wonder what I could use for that liquidy type texture? Any suggestions please?0
