transferring numbers to samsung galaxy portal

hi guys,
i got a new phone last week (samsung galaxy portal)and tried to move the numbers from my old sim onto this phone. However, i get a message saying there are no numbers saved on the sim. They are definitely there as my old phone died and i had to use another for a couple of weeks and transferred the numbers onto that with no problems. The networks are different now though from vigin sim to a 3 phone. Could this affect me moving my numbers? I have atleast 50 numbers to move and it will take forever to do it manually - can anyone help?
