I have an odd question
I don't like to take the plugs out of my skybox, dvd recorder and stereo. They are all set up and would take ages to reset every day. Anyway, I use my stereo as an alarm.
Anyway, I turn them off with the remote, and they either have a red light or green light remaining. Does a green light use more power than a red light or vice versa? I am getting paranoid about using unnecessary power too.An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

u still using elec as power is still on as far as i remember having something on standby uses 60% of the elec as if it were switched .... well this is what we were told in Training when i first joined edf energy callcentre hope this helps

Sorry but this is another urban myth! No appliance uses anything like 60% when on standby and most modern appliances are designed to use less than 1W on standby.

There is no need to unplug these devices as they have been designed to be left connected. Don't worry whether it is a green or red light showing as the difference is negligible and the power being used is very very small indeed! There is money saving and there is being paranoid about devices being left on standby. Do the sums and you will find that the saving over a year is very small.

The standby arguements are basically pointless, it all depends on the model specifications.
There is a working practice of less than 1watt for standby of modern TV's and related equipment, but it is not statutory and still many suppliers are not bothering. IMO it makes good sense to leave a skybox switched on, red or green light makes no difference on panasonic sky boxes and probably no difference on other makes. Having a sky box will cost you approx 15 pounds per year to run. (based on 10p/kwh).
If you want to save money make sure you check the power consumption in standby mode before you buy any new model. A cordless phone will cost you 3 - 5 pounds per year (for one handset) the more handsets you have on constant charge the more power will be used.
At the end of the day electricity useage all adds up and it all depends on
1. whether you are energy consious or not
2. couldn't care less about 5 pounds here per year, 3 pounds there per year, and 5 pounds there per year.
I like to keep things simple for the sake of the environment and my costs, Ihave a manual phone which uses no electricity at all, and I have very few items on all the time, my leccy bill is approx 10 pounds per month.0 -
Hiya
Sorry I looked for this thread the other day and couldn't find it!
Anyway, meter tested ok, which was what I expected.
However he did say I was using about 8p an hour, and I had everything on I normally would, but my consumption is actually about twice that.
I've been working a lot since then, 7 days a week, so haven't had time to get anyone out yet to check things properly, but will just after Christmas when i get back to normal (the things you have to do to make money for Christmas lol).
In the meantime I wrote to BG complaining about the attitude of their supervisors, they recieved it on the 6th Sept, and haven't bothered replying.
So I wrote to them and did a SAR under the DPA which they have to respond to by the 28th of this month, I requested the tapes/cd's of the telephone calls too, which should be fun
Sorry I haven't really got anything further to report but will as soon as I can0 -
You had us in suspenders there for a while, DVD., a Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act., that should sort 'em.

Eh? Not what I would expect. Did you show the meter man your trick of switching on one light upstairs and the meter flash changes from slow to fast? What was the explanation? Did he do a progressive load test? Did you witness the testing?0 -
I'd really like to know how this turned out .. I don't suppose anyone has any clues ?0
