Ryanair and Neteller.. pending?!

Options
Hi all,

A couple of days ago I got my Prepaid NET+ Mastercard, and I quickly booked Ryanair flights. On the 'manage my booking' section it's showing 'payment ok: amount due is €0', however, my Neteller account says the debit transaction to RA is 'pending'.

I contacted Neteller but their email responses are kind of rubbish and they weren't helpful at all. Just wondering - have you had 'pending' transactions? Do they go through, or is payment suddenly going to be blocked, ending up with Ryanair cancelling my flights?

Thank you :)

    Apparently-

A pending transaction is one in which NETELLER is waiting to receive financial confirmation from the merchant. One of the main reasons why the funds are still showing as pending is because NETELLER is waiting for the merchant to take the funds from the NETELLER account.

I'm terrified the bookings I made are going to fall through..

Hi qwertymz (wow, interesting user name;)

Pending transaction just means the funds are being cleared. It's like on a Credit Card, the limit is blocked but the money still not charged to you by the merchant.

You transaction with Ryanair is not going to be affected, becasue your payment went through, so no worries. Read reports on Ryanair today and how their profit increased by more than 200% this. I suppose it is me and you booking;)

Neteller shows the transactions as soon as they happen. Unlike your debit/credit card that just shows them when they debit your account. But it takes the same length of time to process them which is why the status shows as Pending until the become finalised, which is about 2-4 days.

Hmm I guess that makes sense. It's just that their answer was:

"It's pending for 7 days, after which it will be cancelled and you get your money back unless your merchant approves it; then it'll go through." - I was just worried RA wouldn't approve it in time, I guess.

And haha re: username. I was on eBay years ago, and something I was bidding on was ending (last 3 minutes); my username wasn't working, and I just typed 'qwerty' and added my initials. And it stuck, somehow!

Hmm.. I see. Normally on my credit/debit cards things go through instantly, which is why I'm worried! This makes sense though - thanks.

Things do not go though instantly on a credit/debit card. They are Authorised instantly, ie There is a check done to see if there is money there to pay for it and then the money is reserved from you spending it until its claimed by the retailer. It then takes 2-3 days to fully reconcile onto your statement once the claim has been completed.

If you check your neteller balance it has been deducted "instantly" also, and will go onto the statement as Accepted when it is finalised onto the statement i.e when ryanair ask for it.

I use Neteller for Ryanair all the time, this is totally normal. And it can take over a week for it to change to Accepted

Thanks :-) That really helped - it's been a week now and still pending! So you cheered me up :-)

just wondered if it worked out ok in the end. i transferrer from my bank to neteller on the phone (both accounts barclays) and was told my transfer was immediate. want to book ryanair flights today really but what if i book them then wait days for the pending to change in the meantime flights go up and i then find it hasn't gone through. anyone know if you get the usual confirmation email from ryanair etc which reassures you that the booking has gone through? thanks
  • Have you received a Ryanair flight confirmation? If you have, I would interpret that as Ryanair being satisfied with your method of payment.

If in doubt, head to ryanair.com and click on Manage My Booking and search for your booking by email address, date of travel etc. If you can't find any record of your booking, only then should you consider trying again.

sorry didn't explain clearly. i haven't booked the flights. i was thinking rather than booking now and waiting a few days not knowing if i'd been successful or not and then finding out somehow it hadn't gone through, and then having to try again, would i be better waiting a couple of days for the pending to change before i do the booking although then I obviously run the risk of the prices going up.
