is it fair to factor in a courtsey car in the quote ?

When you ask questions like this, it shows why you ought not to do a deal with the third party, but go via his insurance.

You are entitled to claim for a hire car (if necesary), all your other out of pocket expenses (someone posted above that getting quotes costs nothing - that's forgetting the time/money and inconvenience involved), and you are sure that any other problems associated with the incident are covered.

(Sometimes more damage becomes apparent when the car is in the garage being repaired).

Report and claim with your insurance company & let them handle it. If he doesn't want put it through his insurance then it's not a problem. As he caused the accident he is liable to pay, if he wants to pay your insurance company and not involve his that's his business your company will chase him for payment.

^^ Fibre glass isn't normally painted, instead it's gelcoated during the panel manufacture... Normal paint isn't flexible enough.

Wrong. Fibre Glass CAN be painted. Reliant Scimitars were painted and they're 40 year old car.

If paint isn't flexible enough, why are modern plastic bumpers painted?

Correct, so were the original Ferrari 308GTBs, Chevrolet Corvettes (even back in the 1950s they were painted glassfibre), Reliant Robins/Rialtos and many more

Problem is if you go via the insurance company even if it is not your fault and you have a fully protected NCB your premium will go up.

Assuming the OP insurance recover all their costs from the third party then it will go down as a no-fault claim.

Some companies load for no-faults, some don't.

As always shop around at renewal time.
