ok so yesterday someone hit my car in the staff carpark where i work- when i left work there was a peice of paper with a number on it saying sorry i hit your car, i can pay for repairs if it affects your premium - well ofcourse it will silly,
ok so i ring the person up - they give me their name address insurance details reg number of the car. The persons address is 2 hours away from place of work? anyway the person wants to pay cash and not go thru the insurance - i dont mind - but i dont want to end up paying out for this repair.

question is what should i be doing now?
anyhelp greatly appreciated

thanks

Get 2 quotes for the repair, tell them how much it is and get the money up front before you have the work done.

Quotes are free. Have a look in your local yellow pages for car body repairers.

    I'd get three quotes.

Remember, you can always go through your insurance if you want to.

What you should do is put it in the hands of the insurers. If this forum is anything to go by I'll wager for every 2 of these "friendly" repairs, 1 will go sour, arguments about cost, friend has a garage etc etc;););)

They hit your car do it the way that suits you and the Ins way will be the safest :)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

A quote will cost you nothing. Who you go to depends on the age and value of your car, if it is expensive go to a insurance approved repairer if it is a cheap car go to anywhere local that is recommended by someone.

They're interchangable AFIAK, you should be able to get a new panel fitted very quickly. Fibre glass repair work however is a specialist area.

yes i hope that it will be done quickly however i do know that they dont come already coloured so would need to be sprayed to match! also i dont know how hard the person hit the car.

post a picture of the bump. someone on here might be able to give you a rough estimate.

if you get a new panel the chances are it will be off colour slightly, if it is sprayed to match the car though, it can usually be matched pretty well.

^^ Fibre glass isn't normally painted, instead it's gelcoated during the panel manufacture... Normal paint isn't flexible enough.

This is why I used to get so !!!!ed off with people saying "oh it's only plastic" with reference to smacking a car door into the bodywork on my Kitcar......
