copied from Bronnie's May post!
Welcome to all newbies - the more the merrier :hello:Well, believe it or not, it's the 1st of May so here we go with the NEW THREAD!!
This fab challenge was set up in January 2010 by katie clampet
Here's her original challenge post:
"No buying any new toiletries, cosmetics, pefume etc... until I have used up ALL the ones I already have. I got a huge amount of (really nice) stuff for christmas but I am going to resist the urge to browse Boots, Asda, Superdrug etc, and pop another tub of cream, face scrub, shampoo or conditioner into my basket. I reckon the stuff I have will last me until possibly June. I have decided that the money I save I will put into my special holiday account.
Anyone else?"
Lots of us have taken part in the challenge over the past few months and are making great progress reducing our stashes and unnecessary/excessive spending.
Come and join us for the month of May. The more the merrier!!
Regulars ignore this, but I thought a quick resume might be helpful for newbies;
Why not add the challenge to your sig as a reminder?
How about taking a bit of time to do a stock-take and see if there are any gaps in your stash that you might need to spend on this month? Some of us set a budget for the month for essential purchases or to help with withdrawal symptoms, others like to go cold-turkey!!
Remember the challenge is about making the most of your money, enjoying your products, finding which products really suit you best and are worth buying, giving yourself a well-deserved pampering and breaking the habit of buying for the sake of buying. In money-saving tradition, it should also be about making your products l-a-s-t as long as possible ( although the temptation of using an unloved shower gel extravagently to finish it off is sometimes too much to bear!)
Brand new products ( or opened perfume) sell well on ebay
Unsuitable products can be used for other jobs (shower gel/ shampoo as handwash etc)
Some items can be returned to certain stores for exchange (for essential items or gifts!!) without a receipt
Unwanted items can be recycled as gifts or for gift hampers (saving the money you'd have spent on gifts)
Unsuitable items can be donated to charity as mentioned earlier.
It helps to avoid the places where temptation lurks for you; be it QVC, Boots, Bodyshop, the supermarket toiletries aisles, grabbit board, online toiletries browsing, seductive department store beauty counter offers etc. Remember retailers are making offers and promotions all the time, so there'll always be another deal!
Good luck all for May and remember to keep popping in for inspiration and support.

Oh goodness.
I'm in again. I'm fine for most cosmetics (oh but I need a foundation, I'm still holding off). I shall never need to buy a lipstick again. I have two half bottles of shower gel,and dh has two full ones, but we have no shower at the new house yet, so would like to get lots of that used up.
I'll robably want some talc this month.
I'm almost out of fancy conditioner (Tigi, so not super fancy) and I'm really wanting some more for best, but I'm going to see if I can stick to a full time transition off it onto supermarket/Boots brands. I will however, need some curl cream, and I do like the tigi one. I've only got one use left in my tube!0 -
Tonight my UU (Use Up) was soap and glory body butter. WIBA (Would I Buy Again)?: No. Nicely moisturising but I didn't like the smell. Looking forward to continuing the stash clearing!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0

No UU's to report but think I've picked up plenty of ideas to rid myself of about 10 bottles of body lotion from the May thread
My feet are going to be the softest best moisturised feet in the NW :T
I've also checked the contents of the shampoo bottles and whilst I've no unopened ones - I think I should be able to get to the end of June without needing to buy new  Yes there are that many partly used bottles in the bathroom:eek: and I have to wash my hair at least every other day!!!
Face creams and moisturisers might be a problem - I have so many I could probably sell loads back to Boots however I suffer with REALLY sensitive, very high colour (RED) skin so am always on the look out for the next miracle cure - going to try and resist temptation and use up all my previous miracle cures before embarking on a new search
Good luck everyone :beer:Save money on toiletries: no new/duplicate items until I've used up all existing supplies

I'm defo in - will be my first full month as only started last month. Think I may and try to concentrate on the travel sized stuff this month - already using the tubes of body lotion as hand cream.
Have xmas gift set from BS of loads of Cocoa butter goodies - may break into that as a little treat!2011
Still trying to reduce the toiletries mountain, now a hill........ :j
Sealed Pot Challenge #1221
Less shoes less shoes less shoes etc0 -
Hi, yes I'm definitely in again for June please.:j
The only things I will need to buy this month are toothpaste, mouthwash, cotton wool balls and maybe an eye-makeup remover as I've only about 1/4 left of my last one. But I got a Boots voucher recently which should easily cover all of those things. So my challenge is to spend no actual cash this month at all.
Good Luck everyone!0 -
I'm in! Still have tons of stuff to use up!! Really, really need to buy NOTHING this month!I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul, I want you to notice when I'm not around[/SIZE][/FONT][/B]0

Still in, still using up...:)
Oh, think I forgot to mention on the last thread that I bought 4 bottles of Corsodyl Daily when it was on special offer at Mr T's as it is £4.40 a bottle otherwise! Annoyingly, I thought I was down to my last bottle, but I still had two more left, but at least it should stop me from spending later when it's not on special offer cos that's a simply stupid amount to have to spend on a mouthwash (blummin' dentists!).Please call me 'Pickle'
No More Buying Books: ???
No More Buying DVDs: ???
NMB Toiletries ??? and I've gone back for my Masters at the University of Use Ups!
Proud to be dealing with her debts 1198~

Is there a thread which does this for food stuffs? I need some help and inspiration there for recipes and using things up that i have in my kitchen cupboards (i have about 50 tins of different things such as baked beans, kidney beans, butter beans, tuna, salmon etc - without all the staples)
Happy saving in June!

Each day is a new beginning, look at what you have an be grateful for every tiny thing. You don't know when it may be taken away.0 -
Thanks freyasmum for new thread!!
I know I'm going to need a replacement night cream soon. Got a day cream in stash. Used my night cream rather extravagently on holiday and was slathering it on neck and decollete rather lavishly to try and compensate for my sun-worshipping........ I know, I know:o
Am being a skinflint and back to using up DD's shampoo and conditioner leftovers. My hair is fairly happy at the mo anyway. Remember the No 7 hair sun-protection spray I bought with the voucher?? Haha! Used it on the first day of my holiday then couldn't be a*sed after that; so that's going to be something else that's going to be hanging around for ever and a day! Wonder if it'll stop the fade on my garden chair cushions instead??! :rotfl:
Managing to use up some of the unloved body lotion now the weather's getting a bit warmer, hopefully get rid of all the randoms this summer.
Can't see I need much else .............at the moment.0
