Bought a set of Peter Rabbit books at the car boot today.

Hi I bought a complete set of Peter Rabbit books today in a little wooden book shelf. They are quite old but I would love to know how old. There is no date printed inside although there is a price 3/6 net.
The set looks very much like this one... any ideas how I can discover the date please?

TIA

Gosh was it that long ago ! Hadn't thought about using decimalisation as a starting point. Thanks.
    great find well done

She was selling on a stall opposite mine. I waited until the end of the sale before buying. I couldn't belive they were still there after 4 hours.

This might be the Amazon catalogue page for them, but without details it is difficult to say.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/COMPLETE-TALES-BOOKSHELF-Beatrix-Potter/dp/B000LJP9OM/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1275338480&sr=1-11

If they appear to match the very brief description you could try listing them on Amazon.

There was a set in my local charity shop a couple of weeks ago, I think they were priced at £25. Can't see that ebid seller getting £350 for them!

    No me neither!
I'm pretty sure that I want to keep them. It has just made me curious about how they can be dated. I don't particularly like Beatrix Potter but was drawn to these books as they look lovely ( much better than the ones on Ebid) You know how you spot something, and then think to yourself ' if it's still there in half an hour I will buy it' well, that's what I did. ( except it was 4 hours)

I'm pleased with my purchase. If nothing else I have had an informative evening researching Beatrix Potter books.

Wow lucky you, great find. Mind if I ask how much you paid for them? I'd keep hold of them too if I were you. Would have thought they will just keep increasing in value with age. My mum bought me a set of these when I was little but mine are the newer, more mass-produced kind. Would love to find a set like that.

I paid £9, which is a lot for me as I don't usually spend more than £5 on any one thing.

I saw this exact set selling for £75 on a stall in covent garden when its the antique stalls day. I loved it! I cant believe you got it for £9, bargain! Like you I dont have a huge love of the books but they hold a special memory for me as I watched the ballet at my Grandparents everytime I was ill, and I also think this set is simply gorgeous!
