I'm the original OP and I think that ljonski just joined in.

I've scanned my pc with Kasperski and that appears to be all good however the stages you list above are a little above me so I've asked for help from the troops who will arrive later.

Bank confirms all good - phew!

Gmail have reset my passwords and I've changed them all from my office pc.

    What a pain.

Then ran a hijack log which Alienrik says ,shows nothing untoward, then is it your opinion that i do as Alienrik says and do this 3rdthing ? As i say i have no reason to think that my pc is comprimised but would listento those better informed than me .Thx. lj

Forget the account. Google are reknown for having absolutely no interest in customer service whatsoever, even to those who pay. Use GMX.com instead.

Interestingly if you google GMX every reference on the first few pages contain the word 'scam'. I'm sure it's not all bad, but perhaps no better.

No, I'm really careful about things like that.

I come from the gambling section where those that start new threads that dont advertise new offers get lit matchsticks stuck up their fingernails !

Yes, do trust alienRIK and run combofix - the first two steps I wrote were copied from him too.

And do start a new post and please recopy all your logs so it's all in one place. We won't push any matchsticks up your fingernails!

(I'm not a real techie here - I received help here and as I am grateful for the help I received and to aid others to be helped, I'm just copying the instructions given so the problems can be fixed! So do trust alienRIK!)

When I google it, I can't see any appearance of the word "scam". Or did you search for "GMX scam"? ;)

GMX was one of the first (if not THE first) free email provider in Germany.

Both Web of Trust and McAfee Site Advisor give GMX a clean bill of health. I typed GMX into my search engine and there was no reference to scams on the first page. I tried with GMX scams with the same result.

I would suggest you download, install and run Hijack This because it seems to me you're getting redirects. Well unless of course you're on the wind up.
