Is anyone else disappointed that the UN condemnation hasn't included a statement that it will organise and oversee aid convoys to Gaza so that Israel has peace of mind that weapons aren't being smuggled and the people of Gaza get the much needed aid? Surely that's one of the reasons that the UN is there.

Nothing will happen as this is Israel - immune from any action so it seems. There is a long list of issues with Israel, many of which countries have been invaded and governments toppled for doing less.....

The condemnation from the UN isn't against Israel, it's against the people that caused the loss of life. From the videos of the soldiers getting beaten and thrown over the sides of the ships, having firebombs and stun grenades thrown at them just as they land, and coming down armed with paintball guns to insure non lethal force. One could suggest the condemnation would be aimed towards the activists.

So far a large number of slingshots (as anyone knows, these can be deadly, and really have no aid application), molotov cocktails, firebombs (explosives), and daggers (I'm not calling them knives, since they aren't for sitting at the table), have all been found.

There's a discussion in Discussion time, might be worth moving this there, or combining them?

I think the purpose of this thread was to talk about any economic impact that come out of the event, rather than the whole "The problem with Israel is....." argument it seems to have turned into.

Well, realistically then, economically. Israel won't suffer any significant embargos. Turkey however, may well suffer in the tourist industry, since a hell of a lot of Israelis take holidays there, and a lot of Israelis see Turkey as the bad guy here.

Greek Cyprus may get a further boost of Israeli tourists, due to their actions of not allowing the flotilla to pick up passengers.

Turkey has got the added boost of not being in the EU. When the euro got really strong British tourist went on mass to Turkey. Think that will be still the case as well as Russians.

As for greek cyprus there ship wasn't the passenger ship hence the no passengers. It was crew and aid.

As for Israeli Tourists I think we will continue to see popular further out locations such as india and mexico.

India and Mexico and other locations are the people who have just finished national service and travel for a year. Turkey was a very popular holiday destination, for weekend/week long holidays.

Greek cyprus didn't allow the flotilla to pick up many passengers in their ports, slowing the flotilla down, there may have been a greek ship there, but my point was the government got in the flotillas way and impeded it's progress.

We're talking about changes, UK tourists are no more or less likely to go to turkey or cyprus after this in my mind, whereas Israeli attitudes will change.
