It's very easy for people like the OPs Dr to ask people why they "want" or "need" a diagnosis, but a diagnosis can be a huge relief, especially for somebody who has been ill for a long time without knowing what is wrong with them.

I agree. I waited about 21 years for a diagnosis I was given in March. It was such a relief to know why I have the problems I do. (although many of the problems were put down to "it's possible that have that problem and be otherwise healthy", "there is no cause of it. You just have it".)

Unfortunately, there is currently no treatment for it or the side effects of it and I just have to learn how to live with it.

  • Get a 2nd opinion - u r entitled to one - ask to see a doctor at the same practice (perhaps of the same sex so u dont have to give a reason?) x

There's a huge chance that I could have ME/CFS. I have a lot of the symptoms so went to the doctors today and after being told off for going in on 'a busy bank holiday' he then spent the rest of the time asking me 'why do you want to be diagnosed' and insinuating that I only wanted to be diagnosed so that I could play on it because 'that's what a lot of people do'.
I only want to be diagnosed so I can know for sure what the matter is with me and then I can get help for it ie ways of managing it.

I don't know what to do!
