Hi all,

Does the 8900 run full mapping/satnav for free through google? or is there another free mapping/satnav source?

Also do blackberry users have to pay extra for the blackberry service if they get unlimited internet?

Thanks

Alex

The 8900 has GPS and will run the Google maps app with sat nav but Google Maps Navigation with full voice turn by turn guidance is currently only available in the United States on phones that run Android. I think all the other sat navs apps with voice guidance are paid for.

You can pay extra for BIS (usually £5 a month) and without it you wont get push email or the Blackberry Messenger. Just download a third party browser such as Opera Mini over wifi and check your emails manually .
  • My 8900 has BlackBerry Maps and does have GPS Inbuilt. Had a look and it allows me to "Get Directions" but I am unsure if this is Voice Aided if you need it for In-Car Usage.

On certain Plans Orange includes its own Sat Nav (Orange Maps) with Voice Guidance for Free.

  • Blackberry maps are installed on the 8900. They aren't Voice Aided. Be careful using Opera as a browser you may get charged. I know O2 do. It's not included in Blackberry unlimited.
  • Yes, on Orange I get both BlackBerry Internet Service and Standard WAP Browsing included but on some Plans you have to purchase the BIS Service and a Standard Internet Bundle if you wish to use the third party browsing applications.
