Sky HD and telephone line

....Why does it say in the "general terms" that the box must be connected to a fixed telephone line for the first 12 months...?? - I'm thinking of getting HD, but would be a pain to get a line over to it.

i think maybe 30% of sky customers keep there box plugged in to the phone line, dont worry about it...grab your self HD baby0

Although Sky require this mine was connected for a total of one day, never had any problems.
Many people would suggest running in an extension cable, not in any permanent way, and then once it is installed, roll it up and put it away.0 -
Thanks all.
Bought a 32" 1080p tv on saturday, so may as well make use of it and get HD. I suppose I have to upgrade my account for this and get a different digi box? Current box is just a thompson sky box. Sorry, I'm a bit thick on this stuff......:DHappiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -
yes , needs a 2nd aerial feed if you have not had skyplus so you will need an engineer visit to installEx forum ambassador

The box is/was subsidised by BIB so it was normal for you to have it connected to the phone or be billed full cost for the box. It's not as important now for single installations but mandatory on Multiroom installs to ensure both boxes are in the same home, and not one in yours & one in Aunt Ada's three doors down, where Aunt Ada only pays £10 to you for her programmes & not full price.
You can get a no phoneline install for a single box for a one off £25.0 -
Thanks so far guys.......
Just to clarify for a thikky.....:D
Why do I need a second satellite / feed?
Could they not just send me a HD box and I kind of plug and go?

One of the main advantages of Sky HD is the ability to record up to two programmes at once while watching one previously recorded,or record one & watch another.
If you only had the one feed then you will only be able to record the one you are currently watching.0
