No idea if they're right or not but the wind up torch I've just bought is great.
They may have confused the capacitor in the torch for a battery. The wind up ones are great. You can get a LED on from https://www.cat.org.uk. Sixty seconds of winding gives one hour of light output.0 -
Woolies do a nice little torch for £7 and it also charges your mobile in an emergency, it goves off a very bright light highly recomended

I bought a hand-pressed 'battery free' LED torch from Morrisons supermarket yesterday, costing £2.99
I immediately took it to pieces, suspicious because it worked from the outset with virtually no charging. There are two Chinese-made, perfectly normal looking CR2032 lithium, 3 volt button batteries inside, providing 6 volts in total. I didn't know these standard cells are designed to be recharged or, even if they can be recharged, like standard alkali batteries can, whether it is advisable or safe.
What a con! On the other hand, the batteries are worth the £2.99, alone, assuming they are half-decent quality, which they might not be.

These are fantastic presents for kids. They love torches but always leave them turned on and flatten the batteries. With these, they can have fun winding them back up again!0

I have had one of these fail on me after only a year or so's use. My parents have also had to return one out of the pack as it did'nt work.0
