    I'm currently complaining to the Energy Ombudsman about First Utility. Their customer service is horrendously poor and in line with other posters here, my experience has been that they never call you back and they don't respond to letters. In despair, to get some sort of response from them to my complaint, I have even tried writing to their MD, but a month has gone by and I have had no response from him either.

    I strongly recommend you keep well clear of this company.
  • I have two complaints outstanding with the ombudsman. The first for electric. FU did not even reply to the ombudsman proposed settlement so that was automatically ruled in my favour . I have to wait 28 days now to see if FU do anything !!! The second with my gas they could not even be bothered to reply to the ombudsman request for case notes. So that is now continuing on my statement only. If they will not correspond with the ombudsman what chance do us lesser mortals have. Since involving the ombudsman they have 'spit the dummy out' they do not send my any email replies and if I ring up they all they say is they will pass the information on to the team that dealing with the complaint. I have not even received an email to do with prices increases. I have never received an electric bill since switching even though I have smart meters and the gas biils stopped arriving when the case was passed to the ombudsman. Once these cases have ran the distance I will be switching. DO NOT SWITCH TO FIRST UTILITY UNLESS YOU LIKE A CHALLANGE.

    I know how you feel dealing with this shower or Bas*****, I am also in a big dispute with them.
    Do not ring 0845 and further line their pockets try calling 01926 328810, it will not get you anyone different unfortunately( same unhelpful, uncaring moronic zombie who follows a script) but it should not cost you as much, especially effective if you register with 18185 first and then each call will only cost 5p .
    Hang in there, they cannot stay in business when they behave like thieves and treat people with such utter contempt.

    We bought a brand new house and found FU were our supplier as arranged by the builders.

    Seeing the tariffs, made me want to go elsewhere due to the extortionate Standing Charges; reading posts/blogs about FU lead me to switch pretty quickly. Or at least try to!

    My chosen supplier EDF, whom I have had no problems with in the past, managed to get our electric over in reasonable time. That was 4 months ago. The gas has still not fully changed due to FU fu'ing the process with incorrect readings etc.

    Go on FUs website and it shows nil balances, yet I still get an email each month telling me my bill is ready!!

    EDF cannot take my DD for gas as the change has not been fully completed, also I can't submit readings for gas so don't know exactly what I am spending and will eventually get a big bill to pay, probably at the same time as all the other post christmas ones turn up.

    And to cap it all, FU are impossible to get through to on the phone.

    Avoid this load of carp if you possibly can!!!!:mad:

    Write to Daeche and cc the deputy chairman.

    I had this crap with FU and when I wrote to Daeche and I also cced the two non exec board members who's job is to monitor (supposedly) the performance of the CEO I got a result and it got fixed.

    Find out who the non exec members of the FU board are and cc them, you have a chance of getting a result then.

    Also I note that the two I cced on my letter seem to have left the company, I wonder why.
