Tips for World Cup Travellers.....
Only 2 weeks to go if you are going to South Africa. If you are roaming with your phone, fine, but see if your provider has a 'passport' or 'International Traveller' service, which will work out cheaper.Ring them at least 48 hours before you go
MTN & Vodacom are the 2 biggest providers out there,Vodacom has the best coverage, but if you do want to get a local sim card you will need your passport handy.Sims are cheap and easy to get,but you have to register them and yourself first at the relevant outlet.
Good news, your cheapy phone will work out there as their network frequencies are identical to ours here in the uk.
Pay phones are scarce,if you are driving i strongly recommend you have a mobile with a good battery life.Dont forget your car charger
South Africa use a large round 3 pin plug identical to our old chunky 15 amp plug of many years back, You can get these for £6 ish from e bay or the airport,The multi travel adapters dont have the right pins for South Africa. Hope this helps someone
