Pregnant and partner's a student, any help?

hello

I'm 4 months pregnant and my boyfriend has just completed a phD. He has to stay registered as a student until October, even though he's no longer getting any funding for his studies. He's moved cities in the last month to be with me and the baby. Both of us are living on my wage of 16k in my fairly expensive flat, is there anything we can do?

(Aside from the obvious solution of him getting a job, he's applied for lots but it'll probably realistically be a few months before he can start anything.)

Thanks

What is it your asking for? Help with getting extra benefits or do you need help in deciding which pram to buy?

You can't claim anything untill the baby is born. Then you will get child benefit and child tax credits. Do you rent?

When do you plan to start your maternity leave?

eh, help with benefits, students aren't allowed to claim. Just wondering if, since he's not actually studying any more, if we could claim anything? He's still registered as a student though.

he can only claim out of work benefits when he's no longer registered as a student.

So students aren't allowed to claim, and he's still registered as a student.

Therefore, by my powers of deduction I don't think there is anything you can claim right now! Once the baby is born you can claim CB, CTC and WTC.

I'm not sure yet when I'm going to take maternity leave. Will it make much difference?

I really don't understand why you come on the benefit & tax credit board as you don't seem to want to help people as much to be sarcastic & rude.

Well, presumably it'll make a difference to the family income and perhaps your partner will have a job by that time.
  • I was single, pregnant, a student with a mortgage, and didn't get a penny until the baby was born. I'm pretty sure the case will be the same with a couple.
