I thought it was quite expensive to pay £17.50 for this repair. Can you find cheaper elsewhere?

Aside from the obvious things like 'don't drive over broken glass' and 'avoid driving through potholes', there is little you can do to prevent punctures. Instead concentrate on learning how to change a wheel, and practice doing it at home. It really isn't hard (unless you drive a tractor or possibly a Range Rover). Make sure you have a spare tyre in good condition on board.

I am a female driver and it's sounds quite scary to change a tyre on my own..

That's why it's good to practice at home where it's safe, with someone to help you. It's not nearly as scary as it sounds - I am also female. ;)

£17.50 to remove a wheel, remove tyre, remove valve, clean rim, repair hole, fit new valve, refit tyre, balance wheel, and refit to car is not expensive at all.
Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.

A local part-worn tyre garage do repairs for £12. Not like I've ever had one done.

whether you are male or female and don't feel able or confident in changing a wheel at the roadside you should make sure you have AA,RAC etc breakdown cover. I'm sure they will respond to this situation and change it for you.

Keep bold tyres on the car they pick up less debris than ones with deep tread. oh and don't drive in the wet water acts like a lubricant:o

It beg's the question.... Where the F*CK do these nails come from????????

It's like a god damn conspiracy!! It's a problem as old as the motorcar itself, yet if you search the web and NOBODY know's or has any idea!! Surely this is more worthy of investigation than some of the useless rubbish our uni students come out with..... Like I dunno..... People who own blue cars are more likely to like the color blue!!! :/

Some years ago and in certain area's of the country there were reports of dodgy tyre retailers leaving nails and carpet tacs on the road in a bid to boost income, although much more common in the USA. Im sure we've all heard the "it's no good mate, you need a new tyre" when we've gone to get a simple puncture repair.

One very good tip is whenever you get in your parked car to drive off, always drive a few inches in the opposite direction to which you'll be leaving. This clears any nails that may be standing against your tyre's, especially in area's of heavily contested shared residential parking.

Avoid driving too close to kerb stones and avoid driving further than necessary onto chevrons.
These are the locations where most dropped nails/etc end up.
