Don't drive over sharp things.0

You can't prevent every possible mishap for your tyres but seeing the total inability of some drivers to steer their cars away from pot holes, kerbs, rubbish, broken glass, bricks and any other hazard on the road i'm not in the least surprised they pick up an extraordinary amount of tyre damage.0

I had one few days ago:eek:.... huge nail right in the middle of the tyre. Thats why I want to know how to prevent it.0 -
I used to get quite a few punctures so now i've stopped driving too close to the kerb where all sorts of debris collects, also, beware of the builders vans/building works.0

Well played sir, middle of tread easy repair...
Nails and screws are just one of life's annoyances, though as said above keeping out of kerbs and away from likely sources of the little blighters helps the odds.0 -
after spending a shed load of money on new 19" tyres on old bmw i invested in some ultraseal and did not have problem again.
there were reports of wheel wobble with it in but personally did not suffer with this.
it does not prevent punctures but fixes them if and when they happen,do a google search and have a read about it.0 -
I had to pay £17.50 for this repair at National tyre.0

10 years ago I was having about 4 or 5 nail punctures each year. Then the last 5 years nothing. You can't worry about pot luck. The man without a signature.0

my local tyre dealer, an independant, did my last one for £5 and that was because I insisted he took the money for a drink. I always go to him for my tyres and he was going to do the repair as a favour:T
OP, it doesn't matter where you drive, those goddam nails will hunt you down and throw themselves directly into your tread. I would give up now (might mean less cars on the road = more room for me...:rotfl:)0 -
Aside from the obvious things like 'don't drive over broken glass' and 'avoid driving through potholes', there is little you can do to prevent punctures. Instead concentrate on learning how to change a wheel, and practice doing it at home. It really isn't hard (unless you drive a tractor or possibly a Range Rover). Make sure you have a spare tyre in good condition on board.0
