I think the problem is these days fewer people give a stuff about anybody else or their property - I sat in the car waiting for my wife to get a few things - the number of people pushing trolleys between the cars banging them off the sides of them was shocking - all to save about a 30 second walk to the path that ran down the middle of the car park.

I also note that shops are cramming more car parking spaces in - the supermarket near us repainted the lines in the car park, and they are now getting 16 cars in a line where there used to be 14 (I counted them!).

As others have implied, all you can realistically do is park in such a way to reduce the chance of getting the car damaged - park at the far end of the car park where there are fewer vehicles (and you can guarantee someone will still park next to you!), at the end of a row, or park across diagonally two spaces (tut tut!!) if you won't get fined . Also avoid parking next to cars which may have children as passengers.

Never park next to a 4x4 or a brat carrier. As the first thing a child does while getting out is push the door as far back as it goes until it hits the car parked next to it.

I'm always careful of where I park now after always finding marks, scratches and dents on my paint work almost on a daily basis.

    :rotfl:

    I'll add to that!

    Never park next to:

    - 4x4's
    - MPV's
    - Cars with child seats
    - Cars with damaged door edge's, or rubber door bumpers (careless driver)
    - Cars with the front seat jacked all the way forward (under confident driver)
    - Old people cars (Yaris, R-Wagon, anything small and tall or with a flat cap on the parcel shelf)
    - Cars with silly little rubber strips hanging of the rear bumper (because anyone stupid enough to think these do anything must be incompetent)
    - Cars that have been driven into a space nose first (you might come back to find a huge dent in your door/front wing)

    Park next to:

    - New cars
    - Boy racers (just the one's that look after their cars, not chav's)
    - Expensive cars
    - Well kept cars

Park in the space next to a disabled spot, or on the end of a row to give the idiot next to you more space.
Park away from the store to avoid rogue trolley's and if you can (carpark not too busy) use two parking spaces.

But, when all is said and done.... Be aware that you can park in the middle of nowhere, away from all forms of life and some muppet will always park next to you!!
It's some sort of pack instinct apparently... That or they just can't see over the dash and need another car to use as a guide.

Careful about parking in 2 spaces even in a supermarket car park, or a half-empty car park. You can get a fine if you are not within the lines. Even if the only available space is halfway between 2 spaces because of bad parking by other drivers.
Every car park will have a sign saying you will get fined 'if not parked wholly within a marked bay', and believe me, there are little jobsworths who will fine you if they can!!!!!!
And BTW, not all parents allow their kids to damage other peoples' property. My kids are not allowed to open the door in a car park. I open the door and let them out. But I know that unfortunately there are a lot of eejits out there who don't give a toss about others.

although i certainly feel your frustration, you spat on the car? - disgusting to be honest.

Also, reading between the lines, your behaviour and language, i think you may need to seek the guidance of some anger management lessons.

Unless you've got chronic acidic heartburn, spitting on there car won't hurt it one bit, bet it didn't even spit back at you?;).

If I find this and usually I don't 'cos it happens when the other car moves off. I've seen enough folks tap a car or open a door into one, then drive of to the otherside of the car park, to expect to find the culprit still there.

An eye for an eye by my reckoning, I'll leave the op to figure out the details.

I'll also add a couple of others to the don't park...... list.

Avoid any supermarket car park at all costs, and any pub come to that.

Always turn the mirrors in, I'm sure some drivers use them as "feelers" ;), like cats whiskers.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Just to clarify you CANNOT get a fine from a Private Parking Company in a private car park. They may stick an unenforceable invoice on your windscreen but you should ignore it.

Just like on the golf course.... I play the percentage shots ;)

I may get a fine on one car park, but i've probably saved 10x that amount in damage avoided on other car parks by doing the same thing.

The same goes with my daily work parking...... I save £80 a month by parking out of the city centre on a residential street and walking the 0.6 miles to the office. If I happen to get a £50 fine for being just slightly over a double yellow, then i've still saved myself £30....
I've been doing this for in excess of 9 months, so my total saving is £750 minus 2 x parking fine at £50 :p
FYI - Bumper was over hanging line by just a few mm as I was trying to keep as much available space behind me as possible.

But a total saving of £650 to spend on nice things for me :) and of course the missus :D:D:D

Of course if it was a private car park it would not have been a fine. Different story on council property
