Stud Earrings with extra long posts

I am trying to find a pair of earrings for my daughter for school but the lobes of her ears are very fleshy and normal earrings are tight and hurt with the butterfly on the back. We have used hoops but because these have to be taken out for PE they are either getting broken or lost and costing me a fortune. Does anyone know where I can get a cheap pair of gold earrings with a long post from?

Thanks

I've found in the past that Ernest Jones and H Samuels have good long earrings (I have a similar prob as I don't wear them often eboughtl my lobes swell a little). Alternatively try an independent jewellers see if they can help.

Wouldn't it be simpler for her not to wear earrings to school?

DH got me some rose gold earrings from a jewellers at the mall in Bristol. I think it was Fraser Hart? I know that I saw the receipt and was horrified that he'd shopped there because they're expensive. I know he paid <£30 for the earrings (I know that's a lot) but they have really long posts. Is it worth sending her in with a little tin or jewellery box to put her earrings in?

Good point! Maybe everybody's are different but I can go months without wearing earrings and the holes don't heal up. Could she not just put the hoops in as soon as she gets home from school if you can't find anything that works?

Nose piercing was a different matter, 2-3 hours with no stud and you're in trouble!

In the county where I live (and teach), the education authority will only allow stud earrings in school - hoops are absolutely forbidden for safety reasons...and I must say that in the past I saw more than enough kids get fingers/hair/skipping ropes caught in hoops.
My DD's secondary school has a rule which states NO jewellery of any kind at any time. They are allowed to wear watches but nowt else. DD has pierced ears but earrings come out for school.

  • Even not wearing earrings to school leaves me with the same problem as she will have to remove and replace the earrings each day which with hoops will cause the damage and the studs are still too small and hurt the lobes of her ears. Have seen some from America but these are only gold plated and really want solid gold so they can be left in.

Gold plated can be left in, I have had the current pair in for about 3 months now, only come out when I am dying my hair. The thing you need to check for, and ask about is the nickel content, as it's that, that causes reactions.

Anything made and sold in the UK has to adhere to strict EU rules on nickel, they are not so stringent in the States (well not all of them anyway)

Your best bet is to find a silver jewellery maker and see if they can make you a pair with longer poles, I know of a couple that may be able to help and I know that they only use .925 sterling
  • How old is she? And why does she have to wear earrings?
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

You'd be better off forgetting all of these "fashion" places and going to a proper piercing place. Taking them out every day is a bad idea, even as a short term measure, and will quickly just aggravate the piercings.

she is nearly 10 and got her ears pierced as a birthday present. She wears earrings otherwise the piercings will close up and I am pretty sure she will either forget to put them in when she gets back from school, or forgot where she put them in the first place. Her memory is as good as mine.
