    Hi Sarah,

I have just found your new diary and I have subscribed again. It’s nice to see you back!

Personally I think you’ve made the right decision going down the DMP route, because, you might be paying £99 a month now, but this figure may change! Once you get on an even keel you could look at ways of earning extra to throw against your debt – it will soon mount up. I am busting my back at the mo to put £250 towards my DMP (I used to pay £150), but by paying £100 extra I am shaving three years off my plan! …With bankruptcy it’s permanent, you can’t change it once you’ve made that decision and you have to declare it for life, but DMPs are flexible!!

You are doing great and you should be really proud of yourself!! …You’re facing up to things and together we will all climb our debt mountains!

This evening I have applied for a new basic bank account so I can get back into Matched Betting, and I've listed 6 DVDs on Amazon Marketplace :)

HI Sarah. Well done on the decision-making and good luck with the DMP. I am sure it will be less than 18years - let's hope those DVDs sell quickly for starters! I'm trailing behind you now in that I still haven't made the decision whether or not to go for a DMP. I will watch your progress with interest. good luck to you - and to Eager Elephant - our OHs all have a lot in common.

I caught up on your diary yesterday E_E, your OH sounds quite similar to mine in some ways! Mine is a compusive liar, he does it because he doesn't like to deal with things at the time (ostrich totally!) but, like your OH, can't seem to get his head round the fact that if he just told the truth in the first place, there would be soooooo much less hassle, and I would help him with things! He also suffers sporadically from depression (something I can't get my logical brain around!), and went through a bad patch through Nov/Dec which resulted in him losing his job, which started the demise of our financial situation

    Hi

    Just caught up with this.

I find depression quite a difficult illness to comprehend also - I seem to be a naturally positive person. Even DH says that I always find the positive in everything.

Luckily I have learnt a lot about it so it means I can empathise well with my clients.

Sometimes I think his depression has got us into this situation as I always allowed him to buy things regardless of whether we could afford it as I thought it would make him happy.

When he could get credit cards of his own he just ran them up as he felt he deserved them and anyway 'I'm an adult and I can buy what I want' - This was a comment made when we were going to Relate. Obviously this was irrespective of our financial situation.

DH still has this great dream of owning a farm etc but is not actually doing anything to get there - this winds me up soooo much.

I am quite glad that we have seperate finances now as I felt like his mother when I tried to control what was going out and then he rebelled against it - you see it's the parent/child concept again which I am trying to get away from.

I do believe we are making progress at the moment - well I am by paying by debts. DH pays the minimums on his but I am not discussing his financial situation with him and am just leaving him to it.

I have felt much calmer since I made that decision.

Good luck with training your OH and I hope you manage to sort his debts out. Although if he has a DMP and a set amount to pay what if he spends his excess on rubbish and can't afford the DMP payment?!?

Sold 6 out of the 8 DVDs already :) Netted just under £25 so happy with that. Got a few bits to eBay too, so will do that next week when I am off work :) Might also look at Music Magpie for some CDs...

Talking of which, I have a week off then OH has a week off then I have a week off.... and I reckon I can save about £200 in petrol money during that time, which will help build the emergency fund up - I am aiming to start with for £500, then go from there...

Got my Easycash card today for my new MBing account... just got to wait for payday now so I have a float - I reckon £200 should do to start with....!?! We'll see on Friday :) Got a 'welcome back' offer from one bookies, so hope that doesn't run out by Friday!

Paid my first CCCS payment last week, not heard back from any creditors apart from MBNA, so not too sure how thats going just yet!

Otherwise there is nothing else to report :D

Glad to see that you have got things sorted. I am sure it will all go very well for you, and that you will be shot of the debt in far fewer years than 18!
