We where setting off to Spain with Ford Transit so all checks done as usual and cam belt had only done 24500(60000 being due time) but we had been told of CBs going at any time.....ours went in Spain on a Saturday afternoon so they did not even look at the vehicle until Monday and took till the end of the week...not exactly a holiday ruined but a third of time used up in wrong location without many comforts....0

Hyundia Accent >'97 - 40 000 miles or 4 years, '97> - 50 000 miles or 5 years.
This applies to 13, 1.5 & 1.5 16V engines.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
I've had a cambelt go on a Megane Coupe - £600 to fix it, which was basically a strip down of the top of the engine, repairing the damage to the valves, replacement water pump (which was on its way out anyway) and all sorts of bits + peices needed. However, the cost of a replacement belt and fitting was only about £150, so you are better off doing it.
Or, getting a car with a chain driven engine like my Mondeo Duratec - no changes needed! They can still fail, but its a LOT less likely, and the car's more likely to fall to bits first. I know beemers use a chain as well.0 -

nissan micra : cheap to buy , econmical to run, japanese build and NO cam belt...... chains may rattle but they seldom break !!!!!!!!Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
