    The only difference between the belt snapping on an 8 valve or 16 valve engine.

    Is the number of valves you can bend when it does snap.

    Some cars have a non interference engine. So when the belt breaks the valves do not make contact with the pistons.
    Simply re-time the engine and fit a new belt.

    Unless it wraps itself around other pulleys and causes damage there.

    Seen them rip the pulleys off waterpumps and snap alternator mounts.

    If you have a car that is reliable its best to have it changed for a few hundred pounds than have to go and buy another 2nd hand car that is an unknown car

    if it does break you may as well scrap the car these days

    to change cambelt £300 -£400

    to change engine if it goes bang £1500 - £2000

    you pays your money you takes your chance etc.
