Boiler change

ok the time has come for a boiler change:(
(lucky i got my ppi money back from egg)
we currently have a normal (non combi boiler )
the whole system is 25 years old and had bits tacked on as we built exstentions (so not really that effiecient )

So what do i go for combi or standard ?
Which makes?
would really like to keep a hot water tank just in case (and maybe solar panels later)
will replace all pipework and rads so copper or plastic ?

oh its a 4 bed house one bathroom with shower(from water system) and bath and seperate downstairs shower (electric and staying that way)

If you want to keep a hot water tank then what woud be the point of fitting a combi?-you can't heat that tank off a combi even as a backup.
Choice of combi or conventional will totally depend on your usage and requirements, and whether it will produce sufficient pressure to run your non-electric shower.

Thought i read that a combi could also have a tank as a backup just in case ?

so does that mean a combi is no good to intergrate a solar system into ??

Yes, it's not often done, but perfectly possible to plumb in a hot water cylinder as an additional 'radiator' circuit. Can have it's own programmer too.

Solar hot water you need a cylinder to dump the heat from the panels into.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
