Student summer benefits - paying rent

Basically I'm a student about to finish my first year of uni. I dont have a job sorted yet, does anyone know if I am able to get job seekers or income support? I have to pay £50 a week rent to my parents, they're both in debt and have a baby on the way so theres no way around it. Does anyone no if theres any support for people in my position?

Thanks

If you're returning to do second year, you won't be entitled to anything, unless you're part of a couple, (with a child?) disbaled oe a lone parent.

You won't be able to claim IS unless you're a lone parent or a carer.

and some of the other things mentioned on there

If you're returning to uni in september i don't *think* you'll be eligible for JSA

Yes I'm returning to university in September. I have a part-time job but the work is as and when needed, which works out to about 1 night a week. I've signed to some agencies but I've not heard anything yet.

Do you already have a job lined up, or are you returning to education (post-grad) in Spetember? If not, you can claim JSA.

The OP is only at the end of their first year. ;)

Is it your mum or you that is pregnant? If it is not you, you are not entitled to any benefits over the summer period.

I read that as the OP's parents have a baby on the way?

OP if you are a student - are you receiving student loans/maintenance grants? These are meant to tide you over for the entire year until you get your next lot of loans/grants in September (which is why Year 3 is less money than years 1 and 2). As you wouldn't be looking for full time work, and if you intend on returning to Year 2 of uni, you would still be technically a 'student' even during the summer, you wouldn't be eligible for JSA. As you are renting from your parents, I doubt you'd be eligible for any housing benefits either, as they would at least take into account your income (even if you did qualify as renting from parents), and your student loans/maintenance grants would be taken into account (whether you receive them or not, as you are entitled to them).

The only real option for you in being able to pay rent to your parents is to do as majority of other students do and get a job doing whatever you can, whenever you can throughout the summer months, and next year, budget out your money to cover you for the entire year.

My mums pregnant. It just seems odd that people who aren't in higher education and don't have a job can get benefits to help with rent but I can't.

because you get a loan to cover you
the days of getting JSA in the summer are long long gone
approaching June isnt the time to think of this
you should have been budgeting since day one for this
I would get onto the student board for ideas on earning income
check gumtree for studenty jobs and your uni SU site
