other advice you have received is good - get someone else to try the bottle for you, use a wide soft teat like the tommee tippee.
The action for bottle is totally different so to get babe interested you may need to give the teat a couple of squeezes so he can taste the milk.
If you are trying formula in bottle dont make it too warm as b milk is only tepid (i give the odd bottle always at room temp).
If using formula then rub some breast milk over teat first to mask the other smells.
If baby doesnt use one already the introduce a dummy for him to play with (big cherry soothers not those small flat ones) - you have to help them keep it in at first but once they get the hang of it they like to play with it in their mouths (my 12 week old has dummy maybe 3 times a week, he likes it but doesnt depend on it)
Never try the bottle when baby is hungry. Breast feed first then when he's finished the first go try the bottle.
Hope you work something out.
Have expressed some breast milk this morning for use when I am at the dentist next week. I have also ordered some of those teats suggested earlier and will also ask husband to try giving the bottle wrapped in my smelly t-shirt!
I don't want to introduce a dummy but thanks for this suggestion.
I didn't realise about not trying the bottle when baby is hungry, although when I am at the dentist he will probably be hungry so am really worried about this, although I can't put it off any longer as I am in agony with my teeth!
I will also try and express more milk later and try a bottle tonight again.
Thanks everyone!Baby Bump born 4th March 2010! :kisses:

Please can you let me know how you get on with the blow up cushion?
Thanks0 -
I'd like to suggest that you talk to a breastfeeding counsellor - there's a link on the The National Childbirth Trust homepage.
They won't pressure you in any way, but are very good at offering good research based information. You can call the breastfeeding line and be guaranteed to talk to a counsellor.
Have you rung up your dentist and explained that you are a breastfeeding mum, and therefore they need perhaps to be careful with your treatment? There may be some alternative they can offer.
I can't remember how long you have been feeding baby, but just wanted to say that I think you're doing fantastically well!It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be0 -

Hi
I have thought about going to a breast feeding support group in my area but it's at 9am in the morning and we are not ready for getting out of the door at that time!!
I have spoken to the dentist, although not since baby has rejected the bottle. Will do this on Tuesday after the bank holiday.
I have been breast feeding for nearly 13 weeks now. Thank you for your comment. Sometimes it just needs someone to say you're doing well to perk you up a bit (even if you don't know them!!) :beer:Baby Bump born 4th March 2010! :kisses:

Your baby may take breast milk from a starter cup. My youngest is now 19 so weaning ages were younger then but we went straight from breast feeding to using a cup without using a bottle in between as you could give baby juice then as well or boiled water.
My son gave up breast feeding himself at 16 weeks as he wouldn't lie back to feed but as he was drinking out of a cup and starting weaning then it wasn't as much of a problem.
However much weaning advice has changed over that time the dvelopment ages of babies hasnt so they may be able to use a cup competantly.

My husband and I have both tried to give the bottle, although not with me out of the room. Maybe we should try that next.
I don't know how long I will breast feed for at the moment as I know it's best for the baby but when he feeds every two hours I get a little frustrated when we always have to rush things so we can get home for the next feed! I am one of those mothers who don't get their b**bs out when out of the house...I know that I should get over my embarrassment but I just can't!
I second the advice to get some help from a BFing counsellor - there should be a BFing cafe which is on later than 9am! Ours runs till 12 and is a drop-in, maybe ask your HV. Also, your HV should be able to help - mine came to my house when I rang and asked them to.
I found it hard feeding in public at first but I started off at a mother and baby group then graduated to a local cafe where I felt Ok ,and now I do it everywhere lol. Maybe find a safe place and go with a friend to practice public feeding? It is less embarrassing with someone else there, I found.
I have no advice on bottles though as I never used them - but 12 weeks is a well-known growth spurt time so hang in there! It should get better although my baby fed every couple of hours for AAAAGES. She is 10 months now and still feeds 6-7 times in 24 hours. She is a boob-monster. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I didn't think about a sippy cup! Thanks for that! I am going to try that after I have tried the bottles suggested in an earlier post. Amazon have sent them to me so should arrive tomorrow or the day after.
There's so much advice out there it drives you crazy. Some people say wean from 4 months...some say 6 months!! What do you believe or listen to?! :mad:Baby Bump born 4th March 2010! :kisses:
