Hi
We are looking to change our home phone - again. We have had numerous phones in the past, and we struggle with the volume on the handset, even though its set on full volume we struggle to hear what people are saying on the other end, even though they say there end is on full.
Can anyone recommend a decent home phone, it doesnt have to include answer machine as we have 1571 already, we were wondering about a dect phone.
thanks

Hi caris, you might have better luck on the Home Phones board.0

I rate panasonic phones highly. Had mine 6 years now and still on same batteries (NimH) I can assign tunes for different people and use speaker phone0

You can get amplifiers for phones, you might be better advised to try one before you get a new phone just google phones amplifiers).
Can't speak for all DECT phones but ours does go very loud and is easily adjusted - have you got any friends that have phones you can try out, one person's idea of loud is another person's idea of quiet!
Sorry I can't be of more help. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. The fact that you have the same trouble with numerous phones could mean that your line has poor incoming call volume (a fault which you should report to your line provider) or that you are suffering or are beginning to suffer from a gradual loss of hearing (happens to us all with age).
Could you get a young relative to listen to an incoming call which you think is quiet and give their opinion?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

To continue what the last poster advised on this thread. I would just advise you that if the same problem exists on all phones then s\he's probably on the right track. You can call 150 or whatever it is and ask for 'Faults' then advise them of your fault. Telephone lines work on a 'signal to noise ratio' pretty much simply put too much background noise, means the signal isn't getting through as clearly as it should. IIRC there's something on the line called 'GAIN' and they would occasionally play with this facility on my own phoneline everytime something went wrong like I couldn't hear the other party etc.
Good luck.0
